UFC 314: Volkanovski vs. Lopes is set to electrify the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, on April 12, 2025, with a card that promises high stakes, compelling narratives, and thrilling action from the prelims to the main event.

Airing live on ESPN+ PPV at 10:00 PM EDT, this event features a vacant featherweight title fight as its centerpiece, complemented by four other matchups that could easily steal the show. With a blend of seasoned veterans, rising stars, and a former Bellator champion making his UFC debut, the main card offers a mix of technical mastery, raw power, and unpredictable drama.

Below, I’ll provide a detailed breakdown of each fight, analyzing the fighters’ strengths, weaknesses, and recent performances, followed by A.I. predictions for how these contests will unfold.

Featherweight Championship (Vacant Title): Alexander Volkanovski vs. Diego Lopes

The main event pits former featherweight king Alexander Volkanovski (26-4) against surging contender Diego Lopes (26-6) for the vacant 145-pound title, a vacancy created by Ilia Topuria’s decision to move up to lightweight. Volkanovski, once an unstoppable force in the division, ruled featherweight with an iron grip, defending his belt five times before suffering back-to-back knockout losses—first to lightweight champ Islam Makhachev in October 2023, then to Topuria in February 2024, ending his title reign. At 36, questions linger about his durability after those devastating finishes. Still, his track record speaks volumes: a suffocating pace, crisp boxing, and elite wrestling make him one of the most complete fighters in UFC history. His 22-fight win streak before the Makhachev loss showcased his ability to outclass opponents over five rounds, and his experience in championship fights (nine straight title bouts entering UFC 314) gives him a mental edge few can match.

Diego Lopes, meanwhile, is the division’s hottest commodity, riding a five-fight win streak since his short-notice UFC debut loss to Movsar Evloev in May 2023. The 30-year-old Brazilian has dazzled with three knockouts and a submission in that span, capped by a decision win over Brian Ortega at UFC 306 in September 2024. Lopes brings a dynamic skill set: a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with slick submissions, paired with explosive striking that’s seen him finish 22 of his 26 wins. His knockout of Sodiq Yusuff in just 89 seconds at UFC 300 highlighted his power, while his resilience against Ortega proved he can hang in deep waters. However, this is his first five-round fight in the UFC, and facing a tactician like Volkanovski is a significant step up in competition.

Analysis: Volkanovski’s game plan will likely revolve around his patented pressure, using feints and leg kicks to disrupt Lopes’ rhythm while mixing in takedowns to sap the Brazilian’s energy. Lopes, though, is no slouch on the ground—his submission threat could deter Volkanovski from prolonged grappling exchanges. The key battleground will be the striking: Volkanovski’s precision and volume versus Lopes’ power and unpredictability. If Lopes lands early, he could exploit Volkanovski’s recent knockout losses, but if the fight extends past the second round, Volkanovski’s cardio and experience should take over. Lopes’ lack of five-round experience is a wild card, but Volkanovski’s been here too many times to falter against an untested challenger.

Prediction: Alexander Volkanovski wins by unanimous decision, reclaiming the featherweight throne with a masterclass in pace and control.

SHOP: The Kickboxer Collection

Lightweight (5 Rounds): Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett

The co-main event features a five-round lightweight clash between Michael Chandler (23-9) and Paddy Pimblett (22-3), a fight dripping with stakes and personality. Chandler, a former three-time Bellator lightweight champ, has been a fan favorite since joining the UFC in 2021, delivering brawls against Justin Gaethje, Tony Ferguson (whom he knocked out spectacularly), and Dustin Poirier. However, his 2-4 UFC record reflects a tendency to prioritize entertainment over strategy, and at 38, his explosive athleticism may be waning. His wrestling base and one-punch knockout power remain elite, but losses to Charles Oliveira, Gaethje, and Poirier expose vulnerabilities to submission artists and high-volume strikers.

Paddy Pimblett, the 30-year-old Brit, is 6-0 in the UFC, with his latest triumph a first-round triangle choke of Bobby Green at UFC 304 in July 2024. “The Baddy” has evolved from a regional standout to a legitimate contender, blending flashy striking with a dangerous grappling game (nine submission wins). His charisma has fueled his rise, but critics argue he hasn’t faced top-tier competition—Chandler represents his stiffest test yet. Pimblett’s striking defense has improved, but his willingness to trade in the pocket could spell trouble against Chandler’s power.

Analysis: Chandler will look to close the distance early, unloading haymakers and potentially mixing in takedowns to test Pimblett’s cardio over five rounds. Pimblett, however, thrives in chaos—his scrambling ability and submission savvy could catch Chandler if the fight hits the mat. The longer this goes, the more Pimblett’s youth and momentum might shine, especially if Chandler gasses as he did against Poirier. That said, Chandler’s experience in five-round wars (even in defeat) gives him an edge in pacing himself.

Prediction: Paddy Pimblett wins by unanimous decision, surviving an early onslaught to outwork Chandler late with grappling and volume.

Featherweight: Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva

Arkansas’ Bryce Mitchell (17-2) faces Brazil’s Jean Silva (15-2) in a featherweight bout pitting grappling against striking. Mitchell, a submission wizard with seven tapout wins, last fought in December 2024, submitting Kron Gracie via rear-naked choke. His unorthodox style—highlighted by the rare twister submission—makes him a nightmare on the mat, though his striking remains rudimentary, and a knockout loss to Josh Emmett in 2023 exposed his chin.

Jean Silva, a Fighting Nerds product, has stormed the UFC with four straight TKO wins since January 2024, earning two performance bonuses. His 80% knockout rate and 5.26 significant strikes per minute showcase his standup prowess, while his 80% takedown defense suggests he can keep fights upright. Silva called out Mitchell after his latest win, setting up this classic stylistic clash.

Analysis: Mitchell’s path to victory is clear: drag Silva to the ground and hunt for a submission. Silva’s takedown defense will be tested, but his striking advantage is massive—Mitchell’s upright stance and lack of head movement invite punishment. If Silva stuffs early takedowns, he could batter Mitchell standing, but one mistake on the mat could end his night.

Prediction: Jean Silva wins by second-round TKO, overwhelming Mitchell with strikes after thwarting his grappling.

SHOP: Ultimate T8 Boxing Gloves

Featherweight: Yair Rodriguez vs. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire

Former interim champ Yair Rodriguez (19-5, 1 NC) welcomes Bellator legend Patricio Freire (36-7) to the UFC in a featherweight showdown. Rodriguez, a taekwondo black belt, boasts highlight-reel knockouts but has struggled recently, dropping three of his last five, including a submission loss to Topuria in 2023. His creativity and speed remain lethal, though his grappling defense is a glaring weakness.

Freire, a two-division Bellator champ, debuts at 37 with a resume of 27 finishes. His well-rounded game—powerful striking and solid grappling—made him a terror in Bellator, but the UFC’s deeper waters test his adaptability after a long career.

Analysis: Rodriguez’s edge lies in his unpredictable striking, while Freire’s experience and versatility could keep him competitive. If Rodriguez exploits his reach and keeps it standing, he could pick Freire apart; if Freire closes distance or scores takedowns, he might grind out a debut win. Freire’s age and the UFC’s intensity tilt the scales slightly.

Prediction: Yair Rodriguez wins by unanimous decision, using movement to frustrate Freire’s pressure.

Light Heavyweight: Nikita Krylov vs. Dominick Reyes

Opening the main card, Nikita Krylov (30-9) battles Dominick Reyes (14-4) at 205 pounds. Krylov, a Ukrainian finisher with 28 stoppages, rides a three-fight win streak, though a two-year layoff (last fight: March 2023) raises rust concerns. Reyes, once a title challenger, rebounded from a four-fight skid with knockouts of Dustin Jacoby and Antony Smith in 2024, revitalizing his career.

Analysis: Krylov’s grappling and submission threat clash with Reyes’ crisp boxing and knockout power. Reyes’ speed could exploit Krylov’s layoff early, but Krylov’s durability and versatility might shine late. This feels like a coin flip, but Reyes’ momentum edges it.

Prediction: Dominick Reyes wins by unanimous decision, outstriking Krylov over three rounds.

Final Thoughts on UFC 314

UFC 314’s main card is a showcase of talent and stakes, from Volkanovski’s redemption bid to Reyes’ resurgence. Expect fireworks, with each fight carrying the potential to shift divisional landscapes. My money’s on the veterans—Volkanovski, Pimblett, Silva, Rodriguez, and Reyes—to emerge victorious, but in the octagon, anything can happen.

Below, I’ll dive into detailed analyses and A.I. predictions for every prelim. Each fight brings unique stylistic clashes and high stakes for the fighters involved.

Dan Ige vs. Sean Woodson (Featherweight)

Background: Dan Ige (18-8) is a fan favorite known for his relentless pace, durability, and well-rounded skill set. Coming off a knockout loss to Diego Lopes in June 2024, Ige is looking to rebound and solidify his standing in the featherweight division. Sean Woodson (11-1-1), with his 6’2” frame and 78-inch reach, is a striking specialist who uses his length to dominate range. His most recent win, a decision over Charles Jourdain in January 2025, showcased his improving game.

Analysis: This is a classic striker vs. all-rounder matchup. Woodson’s advantage lies in his reach and jab, which he uses to keep opponents at bay. His striking output is crisp, averaging 5.3 significant strikes per minute, and he’s shown resilience in his lone loss (a knockout to Julian Erosa in 2020). Ige, however, thrives in chaos. With a 54% striking accuracy and a willingness to eat shots to close distance, he’ll look to turn this into a brawl. His wrestling (1.2 takedowns per 15 minutes) could be key, though Woodson’s 70% takedown defense suggests he’s prepared to stay upright.

The early rounds will likely favor Woodson if he can establish his jab and lateral movement, picking Ige apart from range. Ige’s path to victory hinges on weathering the storm, cutting angles, and dragging Woodson into deep waters where his cardio and pressure shine. Woodson’s chin has been tested, and Ige’s power (nine KO/TKO wins) could exploit any lapse in focus.

Prediction: This feels like a razor-close fight. Woodson’s technical striking might win him the first two rounds, but Ige’s durability and late-fight surge could steal the third. I lean toward Dan Ige via split decision, as his heart and aggression sway the judges in a gritty war.

Yan Xiaonan vs. Virna Jandiroba (Women’s Strawweight)

Background: Yan Xiaonan (15-4) is a top-tier strawweight with elite striking credentials, boasting a 5.1 significant strikes per minute rate and a knockout win over Jéssica Andrade in 2023. After a title shot loss to Zhang Weili in 2024, she’s hungry to climb back up. Virna Jandiroba (20-3), a grappling wizard, has won four straight, including a submission of Amanda Lemos in July 2024. Her jiu-jitsu is among the division’s best, with eight submission victories.

Analysis: This is a striker vs. grappler showdown with massive implications. Xiaonan’s game plan will revolve around her pinpoint striking—crisp combinations and a stiff jab—to keep Jandiroba at distance. Her 67% takedown defense is solid, but she’s never faced a grappler as relentless as Jandiroba. The Brazilian’s 2.8 takedowns per 15 minutes and chain-wrestling approach will test Xiaonan’s sprawl-and-brawl

Jandiroba’s path to victory is simple: close the distance, drag Xiaonan to the mat, and hunt for submissions. Her armbar finish of Lemos showed her ability to capitalize once grounded. Xiaonan must avoid the clinch, where Jandiroba’s judo background shines, and use her footwork to stay in open space.

The X-factor is stamina. Xiaonan’s cardio held up in her five-round war with Weili, while Jandiroba has never gone past three rounds in the UFC. If Xiaonan survives the early grappling onslaught, she could turn the tide late with volume striking.

Prediction: Jandiroba’s grappling edge is hard to ignore against a striker like Xiaonan, who’s been taken down before (e.g., by Carla Esparza). I see Jandiroba securing a takedown in Round 1 and locking in a submission. Virna Jandiroba via armbar, Round 2.

Jim Miller vs. Chase Hooper (Lightweight)

Background: Jim Miller (37-18) is a UFC legend with more fights (45) than anyone in company history. At 41, he’s still dangerous, riding a submission win over Gabriel Benitez in January 2025. Chase Hooper (13-3-1), just 25, is a submission ace with nine tapout wins, coming off a decision victory over Clay Guida in December 2024.

Analysis: This pits experience against youth. Miller’s well-rounded game—decent striking (3.5 significant strikes per minute) and solid grappling (1.6 takedowns per 15 minutes)—makes him a tough out. His 73% takedown defense will be tested by Hooper’s relentless wrestling (3.2 takedowns per 15 minutes) and BJJ black belt skills.

Hooper’s lanky 6’1” frame gives him a reach edge, but his striking remains a work in progress (42% accuracy). Miller, with 19 submission wins of his own, won’t be an easy mark on the ground. The key battle will be positional: if Hooper can’t get top control, Miller’s veteran savvy could punish him with ground-and-pound or counter-submissions.

Age could play a role. Miller’s durability is legendary, but Hooper’s pace might expose any decline. Conversely, Hooper’s relative inexperience (fewer high-level opponents) might let Miller dictate terms.

Prediction: Miller’s cage IQ gives him an early edge, but Hooper’s youth and submission game take over as Miller tires. Chase Hooper via rear-naked choke, Round 3.

SHOP: The Kickboxer Collection

Darren Elkins vs. Julian Erosa (Featherweight)

Background: Darren Elkins (28-11) is the epitome of grit, with a 4-2 record since 2020 and a recent decision win over Daniel Pineda in October 2024. Julian Erosa (29-12), a streaky but dangerous finisher, has 11 knockouts and 12 submissions. He’s coming off a loss to Nate Landwehr in December 2024.

Analysis: This is a brawler’s delight. Elkins’ relentless wrestling (3.8 takedowns per 15 minutes) and iron chin (never knocked out) let him grind opponents down. His striking is limited (2.7 significant strikes per minute), but he thrives in scrambles. Erosa, with a 74-inch reach, prefers a stand-up war, landing 5.2 significant strikes per minute and boasting a knockout over Sean Woodson.

Erosa’s 47% takedown defense is shaky, and Elkins will exploit it. If Erosa keeps it standing, his power and guillotine threat (five submission wins) could catch Elkins. However, Elkins’ pace often breaks fighters late, and Erosa’s cardio has faltered in three-rounders.

The intangibles favor Elkins: his “Damage” nickname isn’t just hype—he’s survived wars Erosa hasn’t seen. Erosa’s inconsistency (4-5 since 2021) contrasts with Elkins’ reliability.

Prediction: Erosa might land early, but Elkins’ wrestling and heart prevail in a slugfest. Darren Elkins via unanimous decision.

Final Thoughts For UFC 314 Prelims

These prelims set the tone for UFC 314 with a mix of veteran tenacity and rising talent. Ige’s grit, Jandiroba’s grappling, Hooper’s youth, and Elkins’ durability could steal the show before the main card fireworks. Expect close calls, finishes, and plenty of drama down in Miami.

Big Fan of The T8

When it comes to combat sports, the right gear can make all the difference between a good training session and a great one. Whether you’re a seasoned fighter stepping into the ring or a beginner honing your skills on a heavy bag, your gloves are your first line of defense—and offense.

Enter Sidekick Boxing’s T8 Ultimate Boxing Gloves, a standout piece of equipment that has quickly earned a reputation as a top-tier choice for boxers, kickboxers, and martial artists alike.

With their innovative double wrist strap design, sharp color schemes, exceptional comfort, and all-around stellar quality, these gloves are a game-changer in the world of fight gear. After spending some quality time with them, I can confidently say they’re worth every punch.

First Impressions: Sharp Colors That Pop

Let’s start with the aesthetics because, let’s face it, looking good in the gym or the ring is half the battle. The T8 Ultimate Boxing Gloves deliver in spades with their sharp, eye-catching color options.

Sidekick Boxing has opted for a sleek, no-nonsense approach that blends style with functionality. Whether you’re drawn to the classic black-and-gold combo or a bolder red-and-white scheme, these gloves exude confidence and professionalism.

The colors aren’t just vibrant—they’re crisp and clean, with a premium finish that makes them stand out from the crowd. The attention to detail in the design, from the subtle logo placement to the contrasting stitching, gives these gloves a polished look that screams quality before you even slip them on.

But it’s not just about appearances. The sharp colors serve a practical purpose, too. They make it easy to spot your gloves in a busy gym bag or during a sparring session, ensuring you’re always ready to go when the bell rings. It’s a small touch, but one that reflects Sidekick’s thoughtful approach to crafting gear that works as good as it looks.

The Double Wrist Strap: Support That Packs a Punch

One of the standout features of the T8 Ultimate Boxing Gloves is their innovative double wrist strap system. If you’ve ever experienced wrist fatigue or instability during a long training session, you’ll understand why this design is a revelation.

Unlike traditional single-strap gloves, the T8’s dual-strap setup provides exceptional support by securing the wrist from two angles. The first strap, an elasticated band, allows for a customizable fit—tighten it to your preference for a snug feel that keeps your wrist locked in place. The second strap, a sturdy leather overlay with Velcro, wraps over the top, adding an extra layer of protection and stability.

This double wrist strap isn’t just a gimmick; it’s a game-changer. During heavy bag work, I noticed how the design kept my wrists aligned, even when throwing powerful hooks and uppercuts. Sparring sessions felt safer, too, as the added support reduced the risk of strain or injury. It’s a feature that’s particularly beneficial for combat sports like kickboxing or Muay Thai, where blocking kicks and clinching can put extra stress on your wrists.

The padding around the wrist area is generous, too, ensuring that every punch feels secure without sacrificing mobility. For anyone who’s ever hesitated to go all-out because of wrist concerns, the T8’s double strap system is the reassurance you need to unleash your full potential.

SHOP: Ultimate T8 Boxing Gloves

Comfort That Lasts Round After Round

Comfort is king when you’re spending hours with your hands wrapped in gloves, and the T8 Ultimate Boxing Gloves deliver in a big way. From the moment I slipped them on, I was struck by how natural they felt. The interior lining is soft yet durable, cradling your hands without feeling restrictive.

The gloves are designed with a natural fit in mind, contouring to the shape of your fist so that clenching feels effortless. This ergonomic design minimizes hand fatigue, making them ideal for extended training sessions—whether you’re hitting pads, working the bag, or sparring with a partner.

The padding is another highlight. Made with multi-layered foam technology, the T8s strike a perfect balance between protection and responsiveness. The dense knuckle padding absorbs impact beautifully, keeping your hands safe during hard-hitting sessions, while still allowing you to feel the connection of each strike.

I found this especially satisfying during pad work, where the gloves provided a sharp, crisp feedback that made every punch feel precise. Even after breaking them in over several weeks, the padding held its shape, proving that these gloves are built to last without losing their cushioned comfort.

Ventilation is another area where the T8s shine. While they don’t feature the extensive mesh panels of some other Sidekick models, the materials and construction still allow for decent airflow. My hands stayed relatively cool and dry, even during intense workouts, and the microfiber thumb—a handy addition—made it easy to wipe away sweat without interrupting my rhythm. It’s these small, thoughtful touches that elevate the T8s from good to great.

All-Around Quality You Can Trust

What ties this all together is the T8 Ultimate Boxing Gloves’ exceptional build quality. Sidekick Boxing has a reputation for crafting durable, reliable gear, and the T8s are no exception.

Made from premium genuine cowhide leather, these gloves feel luxurious to the touch while offering the toughness needed to withstand rigorous training. The leather not only enhances durability but also adds to the overall comfort, molding to your hands over time for a personalized fit. Double stitching reinforces key areas, ensuring that the gloves can handle the wear and tear of daily use without falling apart.

The attention to detail is evident throughout. The Velcro on the wrist straps is strong and secure, showing no signs of wear even after repeated use. The logo and branding are subtly integrated, maintaining a sleek, professional look without overwhelming the design. Every aspect of the T8s feels intentional, from the weight distribution to the thickness of the padding, making them a reliable companion for any fighter.

Available in 14oz and 16oz sizes, the T8s cater to a range of needs—14oz for general training and 16oz for sparring or heavy bag work. Regardless of the size, the quality remains consistent, offering the same level of protection and performance. At a mid-to-high price point, they’re an investment, but one that pays off in longevity and functionality. These gloves compete with top-tier brands like Hayabusa and Cleto Reyes, proving that Sidekick Boxing is a serious contender in the fight gear market.

Final Thoughts: The T8 is a Champion’s Choice

Sidekick Boxing’s T8 Ultimate Boxing Gloves are a triumph of design and craftsmanship. The sharp colors make them a visual standout, while the double wrist strap system offers unparalleled support that boosts confidence in every punch. Comfort is top-notch, with a fit and feel that keeps you going round after round, and the all-around quality ensures they’ll be a staple in your gear bag for years to come. Whether you’re training for competition or just looking to level up your workouts, the T8s deliver on every front.

For anyone serious about their craft, these gloves are a must-try. They embody what Sidekick Boxing does best: blending innovation with practicality to create gear that empowers fighters. Slip on a pair of T8 Ultimates, and you’ll feel the difference from the first jab to the final bell. They’re not just gloves—they’re a statement of intent, and they’ve earned their place in the ring.

The UFC returns to London, England, on March 22nd, 2025, for an electrifying event at the O2 Arena. The card will be headlined by a welterweight clash between former champion Leon Edwards and rising contender Sean Brady. It promises a mix of high-stakes matchups, local talent, and intriguing stylistic battles.

Main Event: Leon Edwards vs. Sean Brady (Welterweight)

Background and Stakes:

Leon Edwards, the Birmingham native and former UFC welterweight champion, steps into the Octagon with a point to prove. After losing his title to Belal Muhammad in July 2024 at UFC 304, Edwards (22-4) ended a remarkable 12-fight unbeaten streak that included victories over Kamaru Usman (twice) and Colby Covington. At 33, “Rocky” remains the No. 1-ranked welterweight, but this fight is about more than rankings—it’s about redemption in front of his home crowd. Originally slated to face Jack Della Maddalena, Edwards now meets Sean Brady after Della Maddalena was pulled to challenge Muhammad for the title at UFC 315.

Leon Edwards kicks Colby Covington during UFC 296 (Photo by Cooper Neil/Zuffa llc.)

Sean Brady (17-1), ranked No. 5, is a Philadelphia-bred grappler on a mission. His lone loss came via TKO to Belal Muhammad in 2022, but he’s since rebounded with decision wins over Kelvin Gastelum and Gilbert Burns. At 32, Brady’s blend of relentless wrestling and improving striking makes him a dark horse in the division. A win over Edwards could vault him into title contention, especially with Shavkat Rakhmonov sidelined by injury.

Stylistic Breakdown:

Edwards is a technical marvel, a southpaw with a crisp jab, devastating elbows, and a knack for controlling range. His clinch work, honed over years, shredded Covington, while his head-kick dead knockout of Usman in 2022 remains one of the UFC’s most iconic moments. Against wrestlers, Edwards has shown resilience, stuffing Usman’s takedowns and outlasting Muhammad in their first meeting (a no-contest due to an eye poke). However, his title loss exposed a vulnerability: when pressured relentlessly, his output can wane.

Brady, conversely, thrives in the grind. His wrestling is suffocating, chaining takedowns with a bulldog-like tenacity. Against Burns, he showcased improved striking, landing sharp counters while avoiding the Brazilian’s power. Brady’s game plan will likely hinge on closing distance, forcing Edwards against the cage, and dragging him to the mat. His submission threat—nine career finishes—looms large, but he’ll need to navigate Edwards’ long limbs and punishing knees in the clinch.

Analysis:

This five-rounder is a chess match between Edwards’ spacing and Brady’s pressure. Edwards has the edge in striking precision and cage generalship, but Brady’s durability and wrestling could turn it into a war of attrition. The O2’s larger cage favors Edwards’ movement, allowing him to skirt around Brady and pick him apart.

SHOP: The Kickboxer Collection

Co-Main Event: Jan Błachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg (Light Heavyweight)

Background and Stakes:

Jan Błachowicz (29-10-1), the former light heavyweight king, returns after a lengthy layoff. The 42-year-old Pole last fought in December 2022, drawing with Magomed Ankalaev in a title bout marred by controversy. Injuries and a title loss to Glover Teixeira in 2021 have slowed his momentum but wins over Israel Adesanya and Aleksandar Rakić prove he’s still a force. Facing Carlos Ulberg, Błachowicz aims to reassert his relevance in a division now ruled by Alex Pereira.

Jan Blachowicz facing down an opponent in the Octagon (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa Llc.

Carlos Ulberg (12-1), a 34-year-old New Zealander training out of City Kickboxing, is riding a seven-fight win streak. His lone loss came in his 2021 UFC debut, but knockouts of Tafon Nchukwi, Kennedy Nzechukwu, and Alonzo Menifield have marked him as a breakout star. With Pereira as a teammate, Ulberg’s stock is soaring, and a win over Błachowicz could fast-track him to a title shot.

Stylistic Breakdown:

Błachowicz brings “Polish Power”—a blend of thudding strikes and sneaky grappling. His knockout of Luke Rockhold and submission of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza highlight his versatility. At range, he’s a sniper with his left hook, but his takedown defense (74%) and ability to scramble back to his feet make him tough to control. Age and ring rust, however, could dull his explosiveness.

Ulberg is a striker’s dream, tall (6’4”), rangy, and viciously fast. His kickboxing background shines in his pinpoint jab and crippling leg kicks, while his six knockouts in eight UFC fights underscore his finishing ability. Against Menifield, he showed composure under pressure, but his grappling remains untested against elite competition. He’ll want to keep this a kickboxing match, where his youth and speed could overwhelm Błachowicz.

Analysis:

This feels like a passing-of-the-torch moment. Błachowicz’s experience gives him an edge if he can drag Ulberg into deep waters or land a fight-altering bomb. However, Ulberg’s athleticism and striking dynamism are tailor-made to exploit an aging fighter’s slower reactions.

Gunnar Nelson vs. Kevin Holland (Welterweight)

Background and Stakes:

Gunnar Nelson (19-5-1), Iceland’s grappling maestro, returns after a two-year hiatus. The 36-year-old last fought in March 2023, submitting Bryan Barberena. A jiu-jitsu black belt under Renzo Gracie, Nelson’s 13 submission wins speak to his ground dominance. Facing Kevin Holland, he looks to climb back into the welterweight top 15.

Kevin Holland (26-11), the 32-year-old Texan, is a fan favorite known for his charisma and unorthodox striking. With a 2-4 record in his last six, including losses to Jack Della Maddalena and Michael Page, Holland’s inconsistency has stalled his rise. Still, his knockout power and resilience make him dangerous. A win here could stabilize his career trajectory.

Stylistic Breakdown:

Nelson is a predator on the mat, with a calm, methodical approach to securing takedowns and chaining submissions. His striking is functional but limited, relying on feints to close distance. Against Barberena, he showed he can still dominate when the fight hits the ground, but his long layoff raises questions about his sharpness.

Holland, at 6’3” with an 81-inch reach, is a nightmare standing. His jab and front kicks disrupt rhythm, while his trash-talking unnerves opponents. His grappling defense has improved—he escaped D’arce attempts from Page—but Nelson’s elite jiu-jitsu is a different beast. Holland’s key is keeping it upright, where his creativity shines.

Analysis:

This is striker vs. grappler at its finest. Nelson will hunt for takedowns, but Holland’s length and takedown defense (53%) could frustrate him. If Nelson can’t ground Holland early, he risks being picked apart. Holland’s recent losses suggest vulnerability, but his durability likely tips the scales in his favor.

Molly McCann vs. Alexia Thainara (Women’s Strawweight)

Background and Stakes:

Molly McCann (14-6), Liverpool’s “Meatball,” is a local hero with a rabid fanbase. After a 1-4 skid at flyweight, she dropped to strawweight, submitting Diana Belbiţă in February 2024. At 34, McCann needs a win to build momentum in her new division and thrill the London crowd.

Molly McCann gets her hand raised in victory (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa Llc.)

Alexia Thainara (11-1), a 29-year-old Brazilian, enters on a six-fight win streak. Her UFC debut saw her outpoint Bruna Brasil in August 2024, showcasing crisp striking and solid grappling. Relatively unknown, Thainara has a chance to spoil McCann’s homecoming and announce herself as a contender.

Stylistic Breakdown:

McCann is a brawler with heart, throwing looping hooks and elbows in close quarters. Her submission of Belbiţă revealed newfound ground skills, but her aggressive style leaves openings. Against Thainara, she’ll rely on pressure and the crowd’s energy to overwhelm.

Thainara is a technician, blending Muay Thai with a slick ground game (five submission wins). Her jab and low kicks control distance, and her 71% takedown defense could neutralize McCann’s forward march. She’s poised but untested against someone as relentless as McCann.

Analysis:

McCann’s tenacity meets Thainara’s polish in a classic clash. The Brit’s pressure could force Thainara into a firefight, where McCann thrives. However, Thainara’s composure and versatility might exploit McCann’s wildness.

Jordan Vucenic vs. Chris Duncan (Lightweight)

Background and Stakes:

Jordan Vucenic (13-2), a 29-year-old Englishman and former Cage Warriors champ, rides a four-fight win streak into his second UFC bout. His debut knockout of Ricardo Ramos in August 2024 turned heads, and a win here could push him toward the rankings.

Chris Duncan (11-2), a 31-year-old Scot, has won three of his last four, including a knockout of Bolaji Oki in February 2024. Known for his aggression, Duncan aims to derail Vucenic’s hype train and claim a scalp for Team Scotland.

Stylistic Breakdown:

Vucenic is a well-rounded finisher, with seven knockouts and four submissions. His rangy striking and opportunistic grappling overwhelmed Ramos, and his 6’1” frame gives him an edge at 155 pounds. He’s calm under fire, a trait that could neutralize Duncan’s chaos.

Duncan is a bulldozer, swinging heavy hands and hunting knockouts (nine of 11 wins). His wrestling is decent, but his defense is porous—both losses came via finish. He’ll charge Vucenic, banking on power to end it early.

Analysis:

Duncan’s aggression could catch Vucenic off-guard, but the Englishman’s technical edge and finishing instincts should shine in this matchup.

Final Thoughts

UFC London’s main card is a tapestry of narratives: Edwards’ redemption, Ulberg’s ascent, Nelson’s return, McCann’s grit, and Vucenic’s rise. Each fight offers a unique flavor, from technical mastery to raw violence, ensuring a memorable night at the O2. With local stars and international flair, this event could reshape divisions and launch new contenders into the spotlight.

The martial arts world is buzzing with anticipation as ONE Championship prepares to host ONE 172 on March 23, 2025, at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Headlining this blockbuster event is a five-round flyweight kickboxing superfight between two of the most electrifying strikers on the planet: Thailand’s Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon and Japan’s Takeru “The Natural Born Crusher” Segawa.

This clash has been years in the making, with fans clamoring for the matchup ever since Takeru joined ONE Championship in 2023. Now, with both fighters healthy and primed, ONE 172 promises to deliver a striking spectacle that could go down as one of the greatest kickboxing bouts in recent history.

The Road to ONE 172

Rodtang Jitmuangnon, a former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, is a household name in combat sports. With a staggering career record of over 270 wins, the 27-year-old Thai phenom has built a reputation as one of the most relentless and entertaining fighters in the game. Known for his aggressive, forward-pressure style, iron chin, and devastating power, Rodtang has become a fan favorite in ONE Championship since his debut in 2018. His ability to absorb punishment and keep coming forward has earned him the nickname “The Iron Man,” a moniker he lives up to in every outing.

Takeru Segawa, meanwhile, arrives as a kickboxing legend in his own right. The 33-year-old Japanese star is the first-ever three-division K-1 World Champion, having conquered the super bantamweight, featherweight, and super featherweight divisions during a seven-year unbeaten streak that cemented his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats. Renowned for his technical precision, calculated aggression, and explosive finishing ability, Takeru signed with ONE Championship with one goal in mind: to test himself against the best, starting with Rodtang.

The buildup to this fight has been a rollercoaster. Originally scheduled for ONE 165 in January 2024, the dream matchup was derailed when Rodtang suffered a hand injury during training camp, forcing him to withdraw. Takeru instead faced ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in a grueling five-round war, ultimately losing by unanimous decision but earning widespread respect for his heart and skill. Rodtang, sidelined by injury, watched from afar as Takeru made his ONE debut, only intensifying his desire to step into the ring with the Japanese star.

Since then, both fighters have bounced back with impressive victories. Takeru returned at ONE Friday Fights 81 in September 2024, scoring a second-round knockout over Thant Zin with a vicious combination of punches. Rodtang, meanwhile, has notched two straight wins in 2024—first a kickboxing decision over Denis Puric at ONE 167, followed by a Muay Thai victory over Jacob Smith at ONE 169 in November. With both men riding momentum into ONE 172, the stage is set for an epic showdown.

Fighter Profiles and Strengths

Rodtang Jitmuangnon

Rodtang’s fighting style is a perfect blend of aggression, durability, and raw power. Standing at 5’6” with a compact, muscular frame, he thrives in close quarters, where he unleashes a barrage of punches, elbows, and knees. His Muay Thai background gives him an edge in versatility, even under kickboxing rules, as he’s adept at mixing body shots with head-hunting combinations. Rodtang’s signature weapon is his left hook, a thunderous strike that has dropped opponents time and again. His ability to march forward, shrug off damage, and maintain a relentless pace has overwhelmed many a foe.Defensively, Rodtang relies heavily on his granite chin and head movement. He’s not afraid to take a shot to land two of his own, a high-risk, high-reward approach that has served him well against top-tier competition. His cardio is exceptional, allowing him to push the pace for all five rounds, and his mental toughness is unrivaled—he seems to relish the chaos of a firefight. In his most recent outings, he’s shown improved defensive awareness, slipping punches more effectively while still maintaining his trademark pressure.

Takeru Segawa

Takeru, at 5’5”, is a technical marvel. His kickboxing pedigree shines through in his crisp, precise striking and masterful distance management. Unlike Rodtang, who bulldozes his way inside, Takeru prefers to operate at mid-to-long range, where he can pick apart opponents with lightning-fast kicks and combinations. His left roundhouse kick to the body and head is a thing of beauty, delivered with pinpoint accuracy and knockout power. Takeru’s footwork is another standout trait—he dances around the ring, cutting angles and creating openings for his attacks. What sets Takeru apart is his fight IQ. He’s a cerebral fighter who adapts to his opponent’s tendencies, often luring them into traps before unleashing devastating counters. His knockout of Thant Zin showcased his ability to chain punches into kicks seamlessly, a skill that could pose problems for Rodtang. Takeru’s conditioning is also elite, honed over years of high-level K-1 bouts, and he’s proven he can go the distance against the best, as seen in his war with Superlek.

Tactical Breakdown

This matchup pits two contrasting styles against each other: Rodtang’s relentless pressure versus Takeru’s technical finesse. The key to victory for each fighter lies in imposing their game plan while neutralizing the other’s strengths.

SHOP: Ultimate T8 Boxing Gloves

Rodtang’s Path to Victory

For Rodtang, the strategy is simple but brutal: close the distance and turn the fight into a brawl. Takeru excels at range, so Rodtang will look to cut off the ring, force the Japanese star against the ropes, and unleash his heavy hands. His left hook to the head and body could be a game-changer, especially if he catches Takeru retreating. Rodtang’s durability will allow him to weather Takeru’s early storm of kicks, and as the fight progresses, his relentless pace could wear Takeru down.Rodtang’s experience in ONE’s smaller 4-ounce gloves—compared to the larger gloves used in K-1—gives him an advantage in generating knockout power. He’ll aim to overwhelm Takeru with volume, targeting the body to sap his opponent’s mobility before going upstairs for the finish. If Rodtang can drag Takeru into deep waters, his superior toughness and aggression might prove decisive.

Takeru’s Path to Victory

Takeru’s success hinges on keeping Rodtang at bay. His footwork and lateral movement will be critical in avoiding Rodtang’s forward march, allowing him to circle and strike from angles. The left roundhouse kick will be Takeru’s primary weapon—landing it to Rodtang’s body could slow the Thai fighter’s advance, while connecting to the head could set up a knockout. Takeru’s jab and teep (push kick) will also play a role in controlling range and disrupting Rodtang’s rhythm.

If Takeru can frustrate Rodtang early, forcing him to overcommit, he might capitalize with counters. His knockout power, particularly with his hands, is underrated, and a well-timed combination could catch Rodtang off guard. Takeru’s ability to stay composed under pressure—demonstrated against Superlek—will be key as he navigates Rodtang’s onslaught.

X-Factors

Several intangibles could sway the outcome. The Saitama crowd, heavily favoring their hometown hero Takeru, might give him an emotional boost, though Rodtang has thrived as the villain in hostile environments like Japan before. Rodtang’s recent injury history is another concern—while he appears fully recovered, any lingering effects could hamper his performance. For Takeru, adapting to Rodtang’s unorthodox pressure after facing the more measured Superlek could be a challenge.

Fight Prediction

This bout is a classic striker’s chess match, with each round building toward a dramatic crescendo. Here’s how I see it unfolding:

Round 1: Takeru starts strong, using his footwork to keep Rodtang at range. He peppers the Thai fighter with jabs and low kicks, landing a few sharp body kicks to test Rodtang’s resolve. Rodtang, unfazed, presses forward but struggles to close the gap, eating counters as he adjusts to Takeru’s speed. Takeru takes the round narrowly.

Round 2: Rodtang finds his footing, cutting off the ring more effectively. He lands a big left hook to Takeru’s body, forcing the Japanese star to retreat. Takeru responds with a flurry of punches, but Rodtang walks through them, clipping Takeru with an uppercut late in the round. Rodtang edges it with pressure and damage.

Round 3: The fight heats up as both men exchange in the pocket. Takeru lands a beautiful head kick that rocks Rodtang, but “The Iron Man” shakes it off and fires back with a vicious combination. The crowd erupts as the pace intensifies, with Rodtang’s body work starting to slow Takeru’s movement. It’s a razor-close round, but Takeru’s cleaner strikes might sway the judges.

Round 4: Rodtang’s relentless pressure begins to tell. He traps Takeru against the ropes, unloading hooks and uppercuts. Takeru fights back with heart, landing a counter right hand, but his legs are fading from the body shots. Rodtang’s cardio shines as he pours it on, taking the round convincingly.

Round 5: Sensing the fight slipping away, Takeru digs deep for a knockout. He lands a flurry of kicks and punches, staggering Rodtang momentarily. But Rodtang, true to his nickname, marches forward, absorbing the punishment and answering with a barrage of his own. In the final minute, Rodtang floors Takeru with a left hook to the liver, and though Takeru beats the count, the bell saves him from further damage.

Outcome: Rodtang wins by unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46). His ability to close the distance, punish the body, and outlast Takeru in a war of attrition proves the difference. Takeru’s technical brilliance keeps it competitive, but Rodtang’s durability and aggression carry him to victory in front of a stunned Saitama crowd. This fight has all the makings of an instant classic—a clash of styles, wills, and legacies that will leave fans talking for years to come. March 23 can’t come soon enough

The upcoming bout at ONE 171 in Qatar between Jonathan Haggerty and Rui Wei is poised to be a pivotal moment in the ONE Championship bantamweight kickboxing division. Scheduled for February 20, 2025, at the Lusail Sports Arena. This fight not only marks Haggerty’s first defense of his ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title, but also pits him against one of the most decorated strikers from China in recent history.

Jonathan Haggerty – The Champion:

Jonathan “The General” Haggerty has carved out a formidable reputation in ONE Championship. Known for his dynamic striking and aggressive forward pressure, Haggerty has become synonymous with high-octane performances. His journey to the top has been marked by significant victories, including a stunning knockout over Fabricio Andrade to claim the vacant kickboxing title in November 2023. However, his recent loss to Superlek Kiatmoo9 a Muay Thai title defense in September 2024 shows that even the best have their setbacks, providing a narrative of redemption for Haggerty in this bout.

Haggerty’s style is characterized by his ability to mix power with technique. He’s adept at closing distances quickly, employing a combination of punches, elbows, and knees. His footwork allows him to switch stances, making him unpredictable and hard to counter. However, his last fight highlighted vulnerabilities when facing elite fighters who can disrupt his rhythm, particularly when he’s pushed into defensive modes.

Rui Wei – The Challenger:

Rui Wei, known as “Demon Blade,” brings his own rich tapestry of experience to this confrontation. With an impressive 70-3 record, Wei is not just a seasoned fighter but a legend in the Chinese kickboxing scene, having been the first Chinese fighter to win a K-1 WorldChampionship. His ONE Championship debut in May 2024 against Hiroki Akimoto was a testament to his skills, where he showcased a blend of precision, power, and tactical acumen to secure a unanimous decision victory.

Wei’s fighting style is methodical yet explosive when the moment calls for it. He’s known for his left-handed approach, utilizing his lead hand to set up combinations while maintaining a tight defense. His kicking game is particularly notable, with a high success rate in both low and high kicks, which could pose a significant challenge to Haggerty, especially if Wei can keep the fight at a range where he can maximize his reach and kicking arsenal.

Fight Analysis:

Striking Dynamics: Haggerty’s aggressive forward movement against Wei’s more measured approach will be a key dynamic. Haggerty will likely try to close the distance to neutralize Wei’s kicks, aiming to land his powerful combinations in the clinch or at close range. Conversely, Wei will aim to keep Haggerty at the end of his punches and kicks, using his experience to manage the fight’s pace and avoid Haggerty’s power shots.

Defense and Counter-Striking: Wei’s defensive capabilities against Haggerty’s offensive onslaught will be crucial. If Wei can effectively use his guard to absorb or deflect Haggerty’s attacks, he might find openings for counter-kicks and punches. Haggerty, known for his resilience, must be wary of not leaving himself open after throwing his combinations, as Wei has shown he can capitalize on such moments.

Mental Game: Both fighters come into this match with something to prove. Haggerty wants to reassert his dominance after a loss, while Wei aims to claim his first ONE Championship title. The mental fortitude to handle the pressure of this high-stakes environment will be as important as physical prowess.

Conditioning and Pace: The fight could very well hinge on who can better manage their energy over three rounds. Haggerty’s aggressive style can be taxing, and if Wei can outlast him, especially in the later rounds, he might find an advantage. However, Haggerty has shown he can maintain his intensity throughout fights, so this could be a close call.

Haggerty vs Wei Prediction:

Given the stylistic matchup, this fight promises to be a tactical chess match wrapped in explosive exchanges. Here’s how I see it unfolding:

Round 1: Haggerty will start strong, pushing forward to unsettle Wei with his usual barrage of strikes. Wei might start cautiously, focusing on countering with his kicks, trying to find the right distance to use his left hand effectively. Expect a close round, with Haggerty possibly taking it due to his aggression and crowd-pleasing style.

Round 2: Wei, now more accustomed to Haggerty’s pace, begins to control the range better. He uses his kicking game to slow down Haggerty’s advances, occasionally landing sharp punches when Haggerty gets too close. This round could swing Wei’s way if he manages to land significant strikes or if Haggerty shows signs of fatigue.

Round 3: The final round could go either way. If Haggerty hasn’t been significantly hurt, he’ll continue his high-pressure attack, looking for a knockout or a decisive moment. Wei, however, will be banking on his experience and stamina, trying to outpoint Haggerty or catch him with a well-timed counter.

Final Prediction:

I predict a split decision victory for Jonathan Haggerty. His ability to maintain pressure, combined with his home support from the UK fans in attendance, might just be enough to edge out Wei on the judges’ scorecards. However, this fight will be close, and Wei’s tactical approach could easily sway the decision in his favor if he manages to land more clean shots or if Haggerty’s pace drops.

This bout will not only be a test of skill but also of heart and strategy, making it one of the most anticipated fights in ONE Championship’s return to Qatar.

ONE Championship’s ONE 170 is poised to be one of the most compelling cards of the year, set against the vibrant backdrop of the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 24, 2025. This event promises high-level competition across Muay Thai, MMA, and submission grappling, featuring some of the most anticipated matchups in recent times.

Main Event: Tawanchai P.K.Saenchai vs. Superbon Singha Mawynn

At the heart of ONE 170 is a rematch for which fans have been clamoring – Tawanchai P.K.Saenchai defending his ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship against Superbon Singha Mawynn. Their first bout was a technical showcase, with Tawanchai securing a majority decision, but this rematch has all the makings of a classic.

Tawanchai’s striking is a blend of power and precision, with a notable ability to switch stances and adapt mid-fight. His previous performance against Superbon showed his growth, particularly in defensive tactics and counterstriking. However, Superbon, known for his devastating kicks and history as the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion, has had time to analyze and adapt. His experience in kickboxing might give him an edge in terms of distance management, which was crucial in their last encounter. This fight could very well hinge on Superbon’s ability to keep Tawanchai at range versus Tawanchai’s capacity to close the distance and unleash his combinations.

Superbon getting corner advice between rounds.
Co-Main Event: Fabricio Andrade vs. Kwon Won Il

The co-main event features Fabricio Andrade defending his ONE Bantamweight MMA World Championship against Kwon Won Il, a rematch that promises to be electric. Their first fight ended in a knockout victory for Andrade, but Kwon has since shown significant improvement, particularly in his striking.

Andrade, with his fluid, Muay Thai-based striking and ground game, has proven to be a formidable champion. His ability to switch from striking to grappling seamlessly adds layers to his already complex fighting style. However, Kwon has been on a mission to refine his game, especially his takedown defense, which was a vulnerability in their last encounter. This fight might come down to whether Kwon can keep it standing where he’s more confident, or if Andrade can utilize his grappling to secure another victory.

SHOP: Ultimate X Boxing Gloves

Interim Title Fight: Nico Carrillo vs. Nabil Anane

With Superlek Kiatmoo9 out due to injury, an interim ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship fight has been set between Nico Carrillo and Nabil Anane. This bout adds intrigue due to the contrasting styles; Carrillo, known for his aggressive, forward-moving pressure, versus Anane’s more technical, tactical approach.

Carrillo’s rise has been meteoric, with his knockout power being his biggest asset. However, Anane, significantly younger and with an impressive record in Muay Thai and kickboxing, could surprise with his speed and precision. This fight’s outcome will likely dictate the future of the division, making it a critical contest for both fighters’ careers.

Other Notable Fights:

Johan Ghazali vs. Johan Estupinan: A matchup of two rising stars in the flyweight division. Ghazali’s striking prowess against Estupinan’s well-rounded game should produce fireworks.

Saeksan Or. Kwanmuang vs. Soe Lin Oo: This fight is particularly interesting due to the clash of styles between Saeksan’s Muay Thai artistry and Soe Lin Oo’s raw power from Lethwei, a Burmese form of bare-knuckle boxing.

Marcelo Garcia vs. Masakazu Imanari in Submission Grappling: A battle of grappling titans, where Garcia’s legendary jiu-jitsu meets Imanari’s unique leg lock game. This match could be a showcase of technique over brute strength.

Maurice Abévi vs. Samat Mamedov: Originally scheduled for ONE 168, this fight can potentially steal the show, with both fighters known for their finishing capabilities.

Analysis and Expectations:

ONE 170 is not just about the main events; it’s a card stacked with potential upsets, breakout performances, and fights that could shape the future of the divisions involved. The diversity in martial arts disciplines ensures that there’s something for every fight fan, from the technical finesse of Muay Thai to the strategic depth of MMA and the pure grappling of submission matches.

The narrative threads of redemption, championship aspirations, and the clash of old versus new guard run through this card. Superbon’s chance at redemption against Tawanchai, Kwon’s opportunity to prove his growth against Andrade, and the interim title fight’s implications for the bantamweight Muay Thai division are just the tip of the iceberg.

Moreover, the event’s setting in Bangkok adds an extra layer of excitement, with the local crowd likely to be electric, especially for fights involving Thai fighters like Tawanchai and Saeksan.

In terms of predictions, while the outcomes are never certain, the preparation and mindset of each fighter will be crucial. Watching how each adapts to their opponent’s style live could reveal new layers to their skills and perhaps even alter the landscape of ONE Championship for 2025. ONE 170 is not just a night of fights; it’s a showcase of martial arts at its pinnacle, promising to leave fans discussing the outcomes long after the final bell.

We are back this week with our A.I. Predictions for UFC Vegas 101. After a long month off, it’s time to get back into the swing of things. We are starting the A.I. off at a (0-0-0) record and will keep track of its progress week by week. Now, let’s get into those picks.

Main Event: Amanda Ribas vs. Mackenzie Dern (Women’s Strawweight)

Amanda Ribas

Strengths: Ribas is a well-rounded fighter with solid striking and grappling. She has a black belt in BJJ and Judo, which allows her to be effective on both the feet and the ground. Her striking is crisp, and she uses her reach to her advantage to keep her opponents at bay.

Weaknesses: Ribas at times has shown vulnerabilities in her striking defense, particularly against very aggressive strikers. She also can sometimes be too willing to engage in grappling exchanges, which could be risky against a submission specialist like Dern.

Mackenzie Dern

Strengths: Dern is a world-class BJJ practitioner with multiple world championships to her name. Her grappling is her biggest weapon, and she has worked hard to significantly improve her striking over the years. Dern’s ability to pull guard and work submissions from her back is also exceptional.

Weaknesses: Dern’s striking defense has been a real concern, she has struggled against high-level strikers. Her takedown entries can be predictable, and she sometimes relies too heavily on her grappling.

A.I. Predictions:

This fight could go the distance, with Ribas having a slight edge due to her more balanced skill set. However, if Dern can get the fight to the ground, she has a strong chance of securing a submission.

Co-Main Event: Santiago Ponzinibbio vs. Carlston Harris

Santiago Ponzinibbio

Strengths: Ponzinibbio is a powerful striker with a solid chin. He has high output and mixes his strikes quite well, often targeting the body to set up headshots. His experience and technical striking will give him the edge in stand-up exchanges.

Weaknesses: Ponzinibbio has struggled with injuries and consistency in recent years. His takedown defense is decent but can be explored by strong grapplers.

Carlston Harris

Strengths: Harris is known for his power and unconventional striking. He has a diverse striking arsenal and can catch opponents off guard with his unorthodox techniques. Harris also has a solid grappling game.

Weaknesses: Harris’s aggressive style can leave him open to counters, and his cardio has been a concern in past fights, especially in high-paced bouts.

A.I. Predictions:

Ponzinibbio’s technical striking and experience should give him the edge, but Harris’s power makes him a live underdog. Expect a close fight, potentially going the distance.

Cesar Almeida vs. Abdul Razak Alhassan (Middleweight)

Cesar Almeida

Strengths: Almeida is a former kickboxer with impressive striking accuracy and volume. He uses his reach well and has a diverse striking arsenal, including powerful kicks and knees.

Weaknesses: Almeida’s ground game is relatively untested at the highest level. His takedown defense will be crucial against a strong wrestler like Alhassan.

Abdul Razak Alhassan

Strengths: Alhassan is a knockout artist with all of his wins coming via KO. He has explosive power and can end fights with a single punch. His aggressive style makes him a constant threat in striking exchanges.

Weaknesses: Alhassan’s cardio has been a concern in longer fights. He tends to fade in the later rounds, and his grappling defense has been exploited in the past.

A.I. Predictions:

This fight is likely to be a striking battle. Almeida’s precision and volume might give him the edge, but Alhassn’s power makes him a constant threat.

Chris Curtis vs. Roman Kopylov (Middleweight)

Chris Curtis

Strengths: Chris is a veteran with a well-rounded game. He has solid striking, good takedown defense, and can mix in grappling when needed. his experience and fight IQ are significant assets

Weaknesses: Chris has shown vulnerabilities against high-level strikers. His striking defense can be exploited, and he sometimes struggles against opponents with high output.

Roman Kopylov

Strengths: Kopylov is a powerful striker with a solid Sambo background. He has good striking accuracy and can mix in takedowns effectively. His youth and athleticism should give him an edge in fast-paced exchanges.

Weaknesses: Kopylov’s ground game is still developing, and he has struggled against high-level grapplers. His cardio has also been a concern in longer fights.

A.I. Predictions:

This could be a striking affair with both fighters having durable chins. Curtis’s experience might give him a sight edge, but Kopylov’s power and youth make him a formidable opponent.

SHOP: Ultimate X Boxing Gloves

Christian Rodriguez vs. Austin Bashi (Featherweight)

Christian Rodriguez

Strengths: Rodriguez is a well-rounded fighter with solid striking and grappling. He has good accuracy and can mix in takedowns effectively. His experience in the UFC gives him the edge in high-pressure situations.

Weaknesses: Rodriguez has struggled against high-level grapplers in the past. His takedown defense will be crucial against a relentless wrestler like Bashi.

Austin Bashi

Strengths: Bashi is an unbeaten prospect known for his relentless pace and wrestling. He has excellent takedowns and can control opponents on the ground. His cardio and pace make him a tough matchup for anyone.

Weaknesses: Bashi’s striking is still developing, and he has had some issues against high-level strikers. His ability to handle Rodriguez’s striking will be tested.

A.I. Predictions:

Bashi’s wrestling and pace might be too much for Rodriguez. Expect Bashi to control the fight with his grappling and secure a decision victory.

Punahele Soriano vs. Uros Medic (Welterweight)

Punahele Soriano

Strengths: Soriano is a powerful striker with a solid wrestling base. He has good accuracy and can mix in takedowns effectively. His southpaw stance adds an extra layer of complexity for his opponents.

Weaknesses: Soriano’s cardio has been a serious concern in longer fights. He tends to fade in the later rounds, and his striking defense can be exploited.

Uros Medic

Strengths: Medic is known for his striking, with a high output and good accuracy. He has shown the ability to finish fights no matter where they go. His southpaw stance and reach give him the edge in striking exchanges.

Weaknesses: Medic’s grappling defense has been a concern at times, and he has struggled against strong wrestlers. His ability to handle Soriano’s takedowns will be crucial.

A.I. Predictions:

Soriano’s wrestling could be the key to victory here. If he can mix his striking with takedowns, he should be able to control the fight and secure the W.

Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett, born Patrick Mark Pimblett on January 3rd, 1995, in Liverpool, England, has become one of the most charismatic and exciting fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA). Known for his flamboyant personality and thrilling fighting style, Pimblett has captured the hearts of fans worldwide. His journey from a young enthusiast to a UFC contender is a testament to his dedication and skill.

Early Life and Introduction to MMA

Pimblett grew up in Huyton, Merseyside, and attended St Margaret Mary’s Primary School and Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School. His interest in MMA was sparked at the age of 15 after watching a fight between Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort at UFC 103. Inspired by the sport, he joined Next Generation MMA in Liverpool and decided to pursue a career in MMA.

Early Career and Cage Warriors

Pimblett made his professional debut in 2012 at the age of 17. He quickly made a name for himself with a 3-0 record before signing with Cage Warriors in 2013. His early career in Cage Warriors was marked by impressive victories and a growing fan base. In 2016, Pimblett claimed the Cage Warriors Featherweight Championship by defeating Johnny Frachey at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. He successfully defended his title against Julian Erosa, although the decision was highly controversial.

Despite his success, Pimblett faced setbacks. In April 2017, he lost his featherweight title to Nad Narimani and subsequently moved up to the lightweight division. After a win, he challenged for the Cage Warriors Lightweight Championship but lost to Søren Bak. Nevertheless, Pimblett’s resilience and determination kept him in the spotlight.

Transition to the UFC

Pimblett’s talent didn’t go unnoticed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Although he initially declined two UFC offers, preferring better financial deals from Cage Warriors, he eventually signed with the UFC in 2021. His promotional debut came against Luigi Vendramini on September 4, 2021, at UFC Fight Night 191. Pimblett won the bout via knockout in the first round, earning a Performance of the Night bonus.

UFC Career Highlights

Pimblett’s UFC career has been nothing short of spectacular. Following his debut, he faced Rodrigo Vargas on March 19, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 204. Pimblett won the fight via submission in the first round, securing his second consecutive Performance of the Night award. His next fight was against Jordan Leavitt on July 23, 2022, at UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Aspinall, where he won via submission in the second round.

In December 2022, Pimblett faced Jared Gordon at UFC 282 and won via unanimous decision. He continued his winning streak by defeating Tony Ferguson at UFC 296 in December 2023. Pimblett’s most recent victory came against Bobby Green at UFC 304 in July 2024, where he won via technical submission.

Fighting Style and Personality

Pimblett’s fighting style is characterized by his aggressive striking and exceptional grappling skills. He holds a second-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Paul Rimmer. His ability to finish fights, whether by knockout or submission, has made him a fan favorite. Pimblett’s record includes twenty-two wins, with six by knockout, ten by submission, and six by decision.

Beyond his skills in the octagon, Pimblett’s personality has endeared him to fans. Known for his distinctive haircut, lively demeanor, and ability to pack on the pounds in between fights, he often engages with fans and media, making him a standout figure in MMA. His endorsement deal with Barstool Sports, worth over $1,000,000, is a testament to his marketability and popularity.

Future Prospects

As of January 2025, Pimblett is ranked #13 in the UFC lightweight rankings. His rapid rise through the ranks and consistent performances suggest a bright future ahead. With his combination of skill, charisma, and determination, Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett is poised to become one of the biggest stars in MMA. Only time will tell how bright his star will shine.
