A pair of highly anticipated World Title bouts have been announced for ONE Championship’s return to the Middle East on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
At ONE 171: Qatar, ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty will make his first title defense against the top-ranked challenger “Demon Blade” Wei Rui, who is currently on an impressive 21-fight winning streak.
Additionally, reigning champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio will face interim titleholder Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks in a trilogy match aimed at unifying the ONE Strawweight MMA World Championship at the Lusail Sports Arena.
Haggerty experienced a remarkable year in 2023, achieving significant victories by defeating the long-standing divisional champion Nong-O Hama to secure the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title, and subsequently overcoming Fabricio “Wonder Boy” Andrade, the reigning MMA champion of the division, to obtain the vacant ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title.
This accomplishment established him as a two-sport World Champion. However, just seven months after an impressive defense of his Muay Thai World Title, the British fighter lost the championship to the Thai striking expert “The Kicking Machine” Superlek Kiatmoo9 in a highly anticipated rematch this past September. This defeat also ended his impressive seven-fight winning streak.
Nevertheless, Haggerty remains determined to recover and make a strong impression in his inaugural defense of the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship.
