WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross Reveals Colon Cancer Diagnosis
Jim Ross, one of the most beloved and enduring voices in professional wrestling, has announced that he’s been diagnosed with colon cancer. The legendary commentator shared the news with fans on May 15 via X (formerly Twitter), giving a brief but heartfelt update:
“Diagnosed this week with colon cancer. Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support.”
At 73, Ross continues to be a vital presence in the wrestling world. He’s currently a commentator and senior advisor with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a role he’s held since 2019 after decades of calling matches for WWE.
Known affectionately as “Good Ol’ JR,” Ross’s voice was the soundtrack to some of the most unforgettable moments in wrestling history, especially during WWE’s iconic Attitude Era. His contributions to the sport earned him a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

This isn’t Ross’s first battle with cancer. In 2021, he was diagnosed with skin cancer and underwent 22 radiation treatments before proudly declaring he was cancer-free later that year. He’s also faced other serious health challenges over the years, including a broken hip in 2024 and complications from Bell’s palsy — yet through it all, his resilience and passion for the business never wavered.
Following the announcement, the wrestling community poured out its love and support. AEW quickly released a statement standing by their longtime commentator:
