The biggest storyline in WWE for the rest of 2025 is John Cena his quest to bring the title home with him “forever.” However, with limited dates on his calendar, fans are eager to see what lies in those dates as the 17-time world champion continues his farewell run. Well, we don’t know, but wrestling fans love to make predictions and that’s what we will do here. That said, in this piece, we will take a look at three things Cena should do before he retires from the WWE.
#1 Have A Celebrity Matchup
John Cena is not just a WWE legend, he’s also a mainstream celebrity that garners a global audience. And for the same reason, before retiring, a high-profile match against a celebrity could generate major buzz and bring new eyes to WWE. Interestingly, the only celebrity that could potentially perform at a high level and draw the eyeballs for it would be Bad Bunny.
To make things more interesting, Cena teamed up with Travis Scott, and Baddy Bunny teamed up with Cody Rhodes would certainly be a compelling matchup. While it would be a fascinating matchup, it can also set up one final singles matchup against Rhodes before his retirement.

#2 Passing Of The Torch In His Hometown
While it is yet to be confirmed, John Cena’s final WWE appearance is rumored to be taking place in Boston, his hometown. While an opponent couldn’t be pinpointed right now, there would be no one better than Cody Rhodes. The torch is finally passed in Cena’s hometown and “The Face That Runs The Place” is now cemented as The American Nightmare.
He pins Cena in the center of the ring and celebrates, holding the championship high. A visual filled with emotions as Cody exits the ring, the crowd, having chanted “Thank You Cena” throughout the match. Hard to imagine a better send-off, isn’t it?
#3 A Final Babyface Run
Throughout his career, John Cena was the ultimate babyface. However, in his final year with the WWE, we have seen a rather surprising heel run. Whether it was saluting the troops, granting Make-A-Wish requests, or standing tall against injustice, Cena was considered to be WWE’s moral compass.
While the, “win at all costs” version of Cena is certainly compelling, it wouldn’t be a proper send-off if we didn’t see arguably the most loved babyface again for one last time. Moreover, it wouldn’t feel right to end his iconic career without one last run as the man who stood for hustle, loyalty, and respect. That said, a final babyface run close to his last match would certainly be something that fans would love to see.
