Women’s boxing has seen a surge of new talent in recent years, and one of the brightest prospects to emerge is Skye Nicolson. The Australian southpaw has already built an impressive résumé, and many believe she is destined to be one of the biggest names in the sport. But who is she, and does she truly have the potential to reach the very top?
Early Life and Amateur Success
Skye Nicolson grew up in Queensland, Australia, and comes from a family deeply connected to boxing. Her older brother Jamie Nicolson, who tragically passed away before she was born, was a former Olympian and Commonwealth Games medalist. Inspired by his legacy, Skye began boxing as a child and quickly established herself as one of Australia’s finest amateurs.

She went on to win a bronze medal at the 2016 World Championships and claimed gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on home soil. Nicolson also represented Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she narrowly missed out on a medal in a razor-thin quarter-final loss.
Turning Professional
In 2022, Nicolson signed with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn, instantly putting her on a global stage. She quickly collected titles, including the Commonwealth Featherweight Title, the WBC Silver Title, and later the WBC Interim Featherweight belt.
Her biggest breakthrough came in 2024, when she won the vacant WBC World Featherweight Championship. Nicolson then made history by defending her title in Saudi Arabia, becoming the first woman to headline and win a championship fight there.

Even after suffering her first professional defeat in 2025, Nicolson bounced back strongly, moving down in weight and picking up a stoppage win to reignite her title journey.

- Elite skillset: A slick southpaw with speed, footwork, and ring IQ that few can match.
- Strong backing: With Eddie Hearn and Matchroom promoting her, she has global visibility.
- Resilience: Already proving she can rebound from setbacks, a key trait of champions.
- Ambition: Nicolson has been vocal about chasing legacy fights, including a potential clash with Amanda Serrano.
