Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira Clash Ahead of UFC 320: ‘I No Longer Respect Him’

The temperature is rising ahead of one of the most anticipated rematches in UFC’s light heavyweight division. On October 4, at the iconic T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, reigning champion Magomed Ankalaev will face former middleweight king Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 320. This isn’t just a fight, it’s a continuation of a rivalry that has grown increasingly personal.

Their first bout took place in March, where Ankalaev handed Pereira his first defeat in the 205-pound division via unanimous decision, claiming the light heavyweight title. Since then, the tension between the two has only escalated, fueled by social media jabs and a recent face-to-face encounter at the UFC Performance Institute (PI) in Las Vegas.

Ankalaev posted a video clip to his Instagram Stories showing a heated exchange between the two fighters. The champion later explained, through an interpreter, that he approached Pereira after the Brazilian had accused him on social media of avoiding confrontation at the PI. Ankalaev denied any such behavior and confronted Pereira directly.

“He’s been talking a lot online, saying I was hiding,” Ankalaev said. “If I had anything to hide, I wouldn’t be here. I came face-to-face with him so he could say it to my face. He didn’t. That tells me everything I need to know.”

Pereira, known for his stoic demeanor and devastating striking, responded later in a media scrum, stating, “I don’t respect him anymore. He’s acting like a clown, chasing drama. I came here to train and fight, not to play games. He’s an a**hole.”

What started as a competitive championship rivalry has now turned into a personal grudge match. UFC President Dana White commented briefly on the encounter, saying, “These are two of the most dangerous men in the division. When there’s real heat, you get fireworks in the Octagon. UFC 320 just became unmissable.”

This rematch carries more than just title implications. For Pereira, it’s about redemption and proving he belongs among the elite in the 205-pound division. For Ankalaev, it’s about solidifying his reign and silencing his critics once and for all.

Stylistically, the clash between Ankalaev’s clinical control and Pereira’s aggressive striking style is a purist’s dream. Their first encounter showed flashes of brilliance from both sides—Pereira’s leg kicks and feints contrasted against Ankalaev’s takedowns and Octagon IQ.

With tempers flaring and egos bruised, UFC 320 is shaping up to be a classic. As October 4 approaches, fans are bracing for a war. Whether it’s settled in five rounds or less, one thing is certain: this rivalry is personal—and neither man plans to leave Las Vegas quietly.
