Why Did Conor McGregor Go To Mexico For Psychedelic Treatment?

Conor McGregor has revealed that he travelled to Mexico to undergo a medical psychedelic treatment using ibogaine. The former UFC double champion said he needed something powerful to help him deal with the emotional and physical trauma built up throughout his fighting career. For the first time, he opened up about how the pressure, injuries and constant spotlight had taken a toll on his wellbeing.

McGregor explained that the treatment lasted more than a full day and put him in an intense state where he confronted visions connected to his own death. He described seeing himself from above, even lying in a coffin. He said it was frightening but forced him to truly face the reality of how dangerous his lifestyle had become.

A Turning Point In His Life

The experience then shifted into something he described as spiritual. McGregor claimed he encountered Jesus and felt his mind and body being healed. He said that when he woke up, he felt like himself again after a long period of internal struggle. He also suggested that this treatment saved his life and helped him regain a sense of purpose.

There has been growing discussion about ibogaine in recent years, especially for athletes dealing with trauma and fighters recovering from brain damage. McGregor’s decision to travel outside of the United States shows how experimental the treatment remains, as regulations still prevent it from being widely used.

Whether this journey marks the start of a return to the octagon or a completely new direction, McGregor believes Mexico gave him the clarity he needed. For a man who has been on top of the world and then knocked down by the pressures that come with fame, this could be the beginning of a fresh chapter built on healing rather than chaos.
