Jorge Masvidal has never been one to hold back his opinions about fighters or fighting styles. The retired welterweight star built his career on explosive knockouts and street fighter mentality. He famously delivered the fastest knockout in UFC history against Ben Askren in just five seconds.
Masvidal’s “Baptism” flying knee became one of the most iconic moments in modern MMA history. Since retiring from active competition, he’s stayed relevant through his podcast and commentary on current fights. His blunt, unfiltered takes generate headlines regularly and keep fans entertained between major events.
Recently, Masvidal turned his attention toward middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev ahead of UFC 328. This happened after the champion responded to podcast comments. The verbal exchange escalated quickly from simple fight predictions to personal insults about fighting styles. Masvidal didn’t appreciate Chimaev’s response and fired back with brutal honesty about the Chechen fighter’s grappling-heavy approach.

Jorge Masvidal Predicts Sean Strickland’s Victory on His Podcast
The entire situation started innocently enough during an episode of Masvidal’s Deathrow MMA podcast. He discussed the upcoming UFC 328 main event between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland with fellow MMA star Johnny Eblen. Masvidal made his prediction clear by favoring Strickland heavily in the matchup. He explained that Chimaev’s cardio issues would become a major problem against Strickland’s relentless pace and volume striking.
Masvidal revealed he plans to bet big money on Strickland winning the fight at UFC 328. The retired fighter believes Strickland’s defensive wrestling is severely underrated by fans and analysts. He referenced watching Strickland train with elite wrestlers at American Top Team in Florida. Those training partners included All-Americans and national champions who struggled to hold Strickland down despite their credentials.
“I know he went up to 185 and did some big things, but I don’t think he beats Strickland. I’m dumping the house on Strickland. I don’t even think Chimaev fights him because they’ve trained a lot. He’s just a bad style for him.”
The podcast posted a clip of Masvidal’s comments on Instagram where fans could watch and react. That’s when Chimaev (15-0)himself entered the comments section with a bold challenge. The middleweight champion called out three people simultaneously by writing “All three of you, same night.” He was referring to Masvidal, Eblen, and Strickland together in one message. That comment triggered Masvidal’s nuclear response during the next podcast episode.

Masvidal Goes Nuclear With “Crotch Sniffing” Insults
Jorge Masvidal didn’t take kindly to Chimaev’s challenge in the Instagram comments section. He dedicated significant time during another Deathrow MMA episode to responding directly to the middleweight champion. The retired fighter went scorched earth on Chimaev’s grappling-heavy fighting style with some genuinely harsh criticism about his approach.
“The funny thing about that is that you ain’t gonna kill nobody by hugging anybody to death. You’d better stop with that crotch-sniffing s**t, especially if you’re talking to me, brother. Your legacy is always going to be known for sniffing other dudes’ crotches. Every time you had a chance to prove somebody wrong, all you do is sniff crotches.”

Masvidal’s comments reflect a common criticism strikers make about wrestlers in MMA. Many fans prefer exciting standup battles over grappling-heavy fights that stay on the ground. Chimaev built his championship reign primarily through dominant wrestling and ground control against opponents.
Masvidal continued his verbal assault by questioning Chimaev’s conditioning for the upcoming Strickland fight. He pointed out that Chimaev’s gas tank has been questionable in longer fights previously. The cardio criticism holds some validity based on Chimaev’s past performances. He’s shown fatigue in fights that extend beyond the second round. His dominant early performances often slow down considerably as fights progress. Strickland throws hundreds of strikes per fight while maintaining relentless forward pressure. That pace could expose Chimaev’s conditioning issues if the fight stays standing.
The verbal warfare between Masvidal and Chimaev adds another layer of intrigue to UFC 328. Whether Masvidal’s predictions prove accurate remains to be seen on fight night. But his willingness to put his money where his mouth is shows genuine confidence in Strickland’s chances. UFC 328 happens May 10th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and that is where all the questions will be answered.
