Rodtang Jitmuangnon Apologises To Chatri Sityodtong And Draws A Line Under Bitter Feud
Rodtang Jitmuangnon has finally said the words many thought would never come. He is sorry, and he wants everyone to know it.
The Thai superstar published a lengthy statement on Facebook on Thursday night, retracting his allegations that ONE Championship employees had forged his signature and apologising directly to CEO Chatri Sityodtong. The dispute had erupted in April after Rodtang declared himself a free agent and questioned his contract status with the promotion.
Rodtang wrote that the dispute traced back to bad influences who entered his life once fame and fortune arrived.
“It is true that after I began gaining fame and money, many new people came into my life,” Rodtang wrote. “Among them were several people who did not genuinely wish me well, but only wanted to benefit and make money from me.”
He said he had since severed all ties with that group, taking responsibility for the mistakes that followed.
“I do not want to go deeply into the details, but I can say that I made a mistake and went down the wrong path because I believed the advice of this group of people,” he said. “I have now cut ties with them and removed them from my life.”
Crucially, Rodtang withdrew the most damaging claim at the centre of the entire saga.
“ONE has always paid me more than the amounts stated in my contracts,” Rodtang said. “Not a single person within ONE forged my signature.”
He also apologised by name to Timo Ruge, the ONE Thailand Vice President singled out during the public dispute, before turning his attention to Chatri himself.
The reconciliation had been building for weeks. Rodtang returned to a ONE ring as a spectator at The Inner Circle 22, embracing rival Takeru Segawa and briefly addressing the Lumpinee Stadium crowd, before signing a new agreement with ONE Thailand five days later.
Now fully back in the fold, Rodtang has set his sights on reclaiming the flyweight Muay Thai title currently held by Asadula Imangazaliev.
“The best way to prove my sincerity is to come back and win the world championship again, bringing honour and pride to Thailand and Jitmuangnon Gym,” he said.
