How Nabil Anane Found An Unexpected Gift Inside His Darkest Night
Losing a World Title is supposed to hurt without exception. Nabil Anane discovered something stranger buried underneath the pain.
The towering Thai-Algerian gets his chance to climb back toward gold when he meets three-division Lumpinee Stadium World Champion Suakim PongSuphan PK in a World Title eliminator at The Inner Circle 25, broadcasting live from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, August 7. That opportunity exists because of what happened this past March, when Rambolek Chor Ajalaboon dethroned him in a five-round battle at The Inner Circle 7.
Anane admits the defeat carried real weight, but he has come to see it as exactly what his career needed.
“Actually, my mental is good. It lit a fire under me. It made me feel like I’m not stuck. Because when I was the champion, no challengers were calling me out, so it felt a bit stagnant,” he said.
“Honestly, I felt stagnant, and my drive went down. I still trained hard – I always train hard – but the fire just wasn’t as bright. I think many people can understand that. Now that I’m not the champion anymore, I have a goal again. I have more fire in me.”
That loss ended a nine-fight unbeaten run that included statement wins over Superlek and Nico Carrillo, and Anane does not pretend it was painless. He simply refuses to let it define him.
“This defeat is like a test. That’s what I think. If I can get through it, I will be stronger. We shouldn’t overthink it. Perhaps it was something that was meant to happen. That’s how I look at it. There were many factors, and I’ve reflected on myself and tried to learn from it,” he said.
The 22-year-old has channeled that mindset directly into his preparation for Suakim, moving away from copying other fighters and instead building a camp around understanding his own body and strengths more deeply than ever before.
Winning back a title shot against Rambolek matters to him, but Anane insists something simpler drives everything he does inside the ring.
“My motivation is the people I love. I just want to make them happy, and I want to be happy alongside those I love and those who love me. That’s all there is to it.”
