Islam Makhachev Defeats Ian Garry At UFC 330 And Makes UFC History With 17-Fight Win Streak
Last night at UFC 330, Islam Makhachev made history by becoming the fighter with the longest winning streak ever. The Dagestani successfully defended his welterweight championship against top contender Ian Garry, securing an impressive unanimous decision victory after five competitive rounds.
Garry entered the contest confidently, believing his skills, reach, and movement could finally end Makhachev’s remarkable undefeated winning streak. The Irishman delivered a strong performance, defending effectively against takedowns while showcasing determination throughout the fiercely contested championship fight.
However, despite facing size disadvantages, Makhachev ultimately dominated key exchanges and landed several strikes that troubled Garry throughout the bout. Following his historic victory, Makhachev praised Garry’s toughness and resilience, admitting that he was unable to finish the talented contender.
However, the champion was certainly not happy with Garry’s over friendly approach in the fight. “Bro I don’t understand. This is a fight, we don’t have to hug each other every round. We’re going to war. I respect all my opponents, but Ian respects too much. It’s not something you have to play. This is fight, this is not game,” said Islam Makhachev via UFC post-flight presser.
UFC CEO Dana White also said something similar and criticised Ian Garry for not having the killer Instincts to win. However, on the other hand Garry was pleasant with his performance and is ready to bounce back again soon.

Islam Makhachev talks about his next title fight
After beating Ian Garry, Islam Makhachev is now being targeted by other top welterweight contenders for his next outing. Names such as Michael Morales, Carlos Prates are ready to challenge the Dagestani next.
Following the win, Makhachev was asked about his preferred opponent and the pound-for-pound king gave his opinion. “Shavkat is not fighting, Prates still fighting, still active. Morales also is good but I don’t remember last time he fight. If you ask who is more deserving, I think Carlos Prates,” said Islam Makhachev via UFC.
Makhachev has also mentioned that he wants to fight before Ramadan and will be back by the end of 2026. It will be interesting to see who will be the next in line to challenge for the welterweight title.
