Sidekick Boxing founder Daniel Knight has delivered a sarcastic take on the location of Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua, questioning why the long-awaited heavyweight showdown will take place in Wales after so much discussion about staging the fight in Britain.
Knight poked fun at the decision to hold the blockbuster contest at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, suggesting that the organisers could have considered other British venues instead.
“They made such a song and dance about doing it in Britain, yet they do it Wales. I know, why not do it in the Highlands of Scotland?” Knight said.
His comments come after months of uncertainty surrounding the venue for one of the biggest heavyweight fights in British boxing history. The contest is scheduled for December 11, 2026, with the Principality Stadium set to host the meeting between the two former world heavyweight champions.

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua Was Initially Expected to Take Place in the USA
The location debate became particularly complicated when Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh explored the possibility of staging the fight in the United States to maximise its commercial potential and reach a larger international audience.
New York’s Madison Square Garden emerged as a potential destination before the plans shifted towards the United Kingdom. Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, had maintained that the agreement for the fight required it to take place on British soil.
UFC president Dana White also became a central figure in the discussions after Alalshikh expressed his desire to involve him in the event’s promotion. However, White’s involvement sparked a public disagreement with Hearn, creating further uncertainty around the organisation of the contest.
The promotional dispute attracted considerable attention as the parties worked towards finalising the long-awaited showdown. White has since publicly asserted his involvement in the event, which will be broadcast globally on Netflix.

Could Manchester or Wembley Have Hosted the Fight?
With the contest ultimately heading to Cardiff, Knight’s comments raise the question of whether other major British stadiums could have provided an alternative setting.
Wembley Stadium was among the venues discussed during the planning process, with the possibility of a late-night start considered to accommodate American television audiences. However, restrictions surrounding event timings made the London venue more complicated to arrange.
Manchester could also have offered a major setting for a fight featuring two of Britain’s biggest boxing stars, although it was not ultimately selected to host the contest.
Cardiff’s Principality Stadium offers a large capacity and a retractable roof, making it an attractive option for an event expected to draw enormous interest from boxing fans worldwide.
Despite Knight’s tongue-in-cheek criticism, the venue debate is now settled, with Fury and Joshua preparing to meet in Wales. After years of speculation, negotiations and promotional disagreements, the focus can finally turn towards the fight itself.
