Aliff Sor Dechapan Shares Deeply Personal Moment With Malaysia’s Prime Minister

Aliff Sor Dechapan is still coming to terms with what he accomplished at The Inner Circle 23 last Friday. Meeting his country’s Prime Minister only made it feel more real.

The newly crowned ONE Interim Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion, accompanied by his parents, received a hero’s welcome from Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya this week.

The 22-year-old finished Muay Thai legend Sam-A Gaiyanghadao in the fifth round of their World Title showdown inside Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium, becoming the first Malaysian to claim ONE gold. That result pushed his career record to 63-9 and earned him a US$50,000 performance bonus from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

The Kuala Lumpur-based star had already given his country its sweetest martial arts moment in years. This week’s visit to Putrajaya added a deeply personal chapter to that achievement.

The two even shared a lighthearted moment, shadowboxing together inside the Prime Minister’s administrative office. It was a small but symbolic gesture between the nation’s head of government and the athlete who had just delivered one of the biggest nights in Malaysian sporting history.

Anwar had rallied the country behind Aliff in the lead-up to the fight, and this week’s meeting carried that same spirit forward. For the newly minted champion, having his parents by his side as he stepped into the Prime Minister’s office made the occasion resonate even deeper.

Aliff has fought professionally for years, but rarely has a single week carried this much personal weight. A World Title, a hero’s welcome, and now a private audience with his country’s leader arrived within the span of days.

Aliff clearly did not take the occasion lightly, sharing photos from the meeting alongside a heartfelt message on his Instagram account.

“Alhamdulillah, today I had the opportunity to meet YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, in Putrajaya,” Aliff wrote. “It was a deeply meaningful honor for me and serves as a source of inspiration to keep fighting and bringing glory to Malaysia’s name on the global stage. Thank you to everyone who continues to pray for and support my journey. God willing, I will continue to give the best for my country.”
