Final Prediction
Benoit Saint-Denis needs to get stronger and completely rebuild his body. Right now, he lacks the grappling strength and discipline needed to compete against top 10 fighters in his division. Joel Alvarez faced a similar issue when he fought Tsarukyan but came back with a more developed body, which led to a good winning streak. Paddy Pimblett also made similar changes. Benoit looked more like a featherweight against Moicano.
He also needs to improve his anti-wrestling or learn some judo trips and body lock takedowns, especially if he’s not interested in learning freestyle wrestling. Sweeps from the bottom don’t work well against heavy ground and pound. I’m saying this because I think he has the potential to be a champion, but he needs to avoid focusing too much on flashy bonuses.
Benoit needs to be more tactical and follow a clear game plan. If he doesn’t, he might end up like Michael Chandler or Dan Hooker, who focus more on entertaining than fighting smart. He should move away from the “French warrior” mentality and focus on strategy. He could learn a lot from Belal, who plays the tactical game and avoids grueling fights.
Nassourdine Imavov had to change coaches because his previous coach wasn’t tactically sharp enough. Benoit has a solid base to be an MMA champion, but he needs to drop the warrior mindset, even though it helps him skip ahead.
I hope he focuses on wrestling, submits his opponent, and gets a clean win. He needs boring, controlled wins to rebuild his confidence. Right now, it feels like Benoit has lost some of his aura, but hopefully, he can regain it this Saturday, even against a lower-level opponent. A first-round win seems likely in this fight.
