In an unexpected twist, Conor Benn has left Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing to join Dana White and Zuffa Boxing. The British welterweight has reportedly secured a eight fight contract with a massive $15 million for his promotional debut.
The move followed recent criticism from Hearn, who described White’s new venture as underwhelming and lacking real boxing appeal publicly. Following the incident, Hearn was devastated, struggling to accept that Benn would walk away so suddenly from their partnership.
“Disappointing. I probably misjudged him as a person, but he’s got to do what he feels is right for himself. I guess there will always be part of me that thinks, was it worth taking a piece of my soul for that. But you have to do what you think is right at the time… This was a bit of an extreme situation and as I’ve said, maybe it was my fault. I misjudged that loyalty. I just felt that he would never do that to us because of what we did. But I was wrong,” Eddie Hearn via Boxing Scene.

According to Hearn, Conor Benn chose not to call him on the phone following the move, which was painful for the British promoter. On the other hand, Dana White posted a picture of himself smoking cigars as he took on one of the biggest names under Hearn’s promotion.
As expected, many experts were shocked and called it one of the biggest betrayals in the history of boxing. Heavyweight Derek Chisora also shared his comments, which went viral on the internet. “Boxing is full of s**mbags. Even me I’m a s**mbag,” Chisora via Instagram.

How Eddie Hearn helped Conor Benn to become a superstar
Eddie Hearn played a crucial role in shaping Conor Benn’s career from his earliest professional beginnings in 2016. He signed Benn under Matchroom, guiding his pro debut and consistently placing him on major platforms alongside Anthony Joshua.
Hearn strategically secured Benn spots on high-profile pay-per-view cards, accelerating his visibility and commercial growth. Under Matchroom’s banner, Benn remained undefeated while Hearn maneuvered him toward a significant WBA title opportunity.

Even after Benn’s failed drug test collapsed the Chris Eubank Jr bout, Hearn publicly defended him. Facing widespread backlash, Hearn stood firm, loaning Benn hundreds of thousands during his prolonged suspension.
When an independent panel cleared Benn, Hearn revived his career by securing a stadium showdown. Despite setbacks and criticism, Hearn repeatedly delivered opportunities, financial backing, and unwavering loyalty throughout Benn’s turbulent professional journey.

Chris Eubank Jr also got involved in the controversy and publicly labelled Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn “scumbags,” mocking their relationship and fallout. He sarcastically joked about the situation online, calling it “scumbag on scumbag violence,” ridiculing Benn for leaving Hearn despite his support.
Eubank Jr also questioned Benn’s loyalty, implying Benn betrayed the man who helped him when times were toughest, making light of their drama. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see when Benn will make his Zuffa Boxing debut and against whom.
