Canelo Alvarez Removed From Pound-For-Pound Top 10 After Losing Undisputed Crown

For the first time in seven years, Canelo Alvarez is no longer ranked inside The Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound Top 10. The major shift comes shortly after the Mexican superstar lost his undisputed super middleweight titles to Terence Crawford, ending one of boxing’s most dominant championship reigns.

Why Canelo’s Drop Is Significant

Canelo had been a mainstay at the top of the sport, winning world titles in four weight divisions and achieving undisputed status at 168 pounds. His name was consistently featured among the elite, often holding the No.1 spot in pound-for-pound debates.

His recent defeat to Terence Crawford changed the landscape completely. Crawford’s victory not only stripped him of the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles, but also raised questions regarding whether Alvarez can still keep up with the very best in the world. The performance gap observed in the fight pushed experts to reconsider his current form compared to rising stars across multiple divisions.

Canelo previously found himself outside the Top 10 in 2018 after serving a suspension linked to a failed test for clenbuterol. He rebounded then and climbed to the top again. Now, he faces another moment where he must rebuild and respond to critics.

Despite the ranking drop, Alvarez remains one of boxing’s biggest global attractions. A return to the pound-for-pound elite is not out of reach, but the road back will require top-level wins and a resurgence that proves he is still among the best of this generation.
