The UFC lightweight division is filled with elite fighters, most possessing remarkable talent and an enormous global fan base. Many of these top contenders are determined to earn a title shot against the reigning champion, Ilia Topuria, soon. However, Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway are focused on a different path involving the symbolic and prestigious BMF title.
A few weeks ago, Charles Oliveira made a strong comeback after his knockout loss to Topuria at UFC Rio. He secured a dominant victory by submitting Mateusz Gamrot, extending his undefeated streak on home soil in Brazil impressively. After the win, Oliveira called out current BMF champion Max Holloway, expressing interest in a thrilling potential showdown.
The ‘Blessed’ quickly responded to Oliveira’s callout, confirming his readiness to fight the Brazilian star in March 2026. In a recent interview, Charles Oliveira discussed the highly anticipated matchup in detail, expressing excitement and respect for Holloway’s legendary career. “Max is a guy I respect a lot. Based on my last fight with him, everyone knows I had an injury — he says I didn’t, but I did have an injury. So it would certainly be a good reunion,” Charles Oliveira via UFC.

Max Holloway vs. Charles Oliveira rematch
Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira first met inside the Octagon on August 23, 2015, at UFC Fight Night 74. The fight began competitively, with both fighters showing early aggression and testing each other’s striking and grappling abilities effectively. However, the bout ended abruptly when Oliveira suffered a freak neck and shoulder injury just minutes into the first round.

As a result, Holloway was declared the winner via first-round TKO, marking an unfortunate and inconclusive end for Oliveira. Following that loss, both fighters have grown and are respected in the MMA community for their personality and achievements. ‘Do Bronx’ defied all the odds and became the UFC lightweight champion, and his reign was appreciated by the fans.
Holloway, on the other hand, became a UFC featherweight champion and has seen part of some of the most brutal wars. While there is no official announcement of this fight, the hype around Holloway vs. Oliveira is massive. Going into the fight, the Hawaiian does have the striking advantage; however, Oliveira’s BJJ is something that can change the fight at any time.
