Chatri Sityodtong, born Chatri Trisiripisal in 1971, is a Thai entrepreneur, martial artist, and philanthropist renowned for founding ONE Championship, Asia’s premier global sports media platform. His journey from financial hardship to becoming a multimillionaire business leader is both compelling and inspirational.

Early Life and Education

Raised in Bangkok, Thailand, Chatri was born to a Thai father and a Japanese mother. His early life was comfortable until the Asian Financial Crisis devastated his family’s finances, leading to bankruptcy and his father’s departure. Determined to rebuild, Chatri moved to the United States, where he earned a B.A. in Economics from Tufts University in 1994 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1999. To support himself during his studies, he delivered food and taught Muay Thai, often surviving on just $4 a day.

Career and Business Ventures

After Harvard, Chatri embarked on a successful career in finance, working as an investment analyst at Fidelity Investments and later as a managing director at Maverick Capital, a $12 billion hedge fund. In 2005, he founded Izara Capital Management, a $500 million hedge fund backed by Farallon Capital.

Despite his financial success, Chatri felt unfulfilled and decided to pursue his passion for martial arts. In 2008, he founded Evolve MMA, a chain of martial arts academies in Asia. Three years later, he launched ONE Championship, which has grown into Asia’s largest global sports media property, broadcasting to over 150 countries.

In 2021, Chatri starred in “The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition,” a reality TV series that won Asia’s Best Reality TV Series at the Asian Academy Awards.
