Gervonta Davis, during a media workout interview at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York, shared what he believes will determine the winner of his upcoming fight against Lamont Roach Jr. He arrived at the event with his trainer, Calvin Ford, to watch Roach’s fight.
He is set to face Lamont Roach Jr. on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Gervonta Davis will be defending his WBA World Lightweight Title, which he first won in June 2021 against Mario Barrios. Davis secured that victory in the 11th round with an uppercut to the solar plexus.

Roach aims to end Davis’ winning streak since they share the same boxing path. In 2023, he won the WBA World Super Featherweight Title in a split decision against Hector Garcia. He later defended it with an eighth-round knockout against Feargal McCrory.
When asked about Roach’s comments in the media, Gervonta Davis dismissed them as a personal “psych” for the fight. However, he shared his thoughts on what will truly decide the winner.
“He did what he had to do, trying to psych himself up for the fight and things like that. But a fight is all about skill versus skill. Whoever has the better skill that night will be the one who wins.”
His trainer, Calvin Ford, said he’s taking a step back because there’s nothing left to teach Gervonta Davis. “I’ve taught him everything,” he said. “People just focus on titles and short stories.”
Davis remains undefeated with 30 straight wins. He has 28 knockouts, giving him a 94% knockout rate. When asked how it feels to knock out opponents, he compared it to hitting a perfect shot.

“It feels like a home run. Like someone placing their bet and hitting the target. That’s how I feel when I land a clean shot and know I caught them real good.”
Gervonta Davis hinted at his plans for 2025, saying he wants to fight more often than in previous years. He’s aiming for three fights.
Right now, he is the highest-grossing gate fighter for a boxing event at Barclays Center. On Saturday, he hopes to break his own record. He also had a solid training camp in Washington, D.C.
Tank’s fighting style is sharp, fast, and explosive. This fight is key, especially with a possible matchup against Shakur Stevenson in July. Davis will be looking to add another knockout to his record and finish the fight between rounds 8 and 9.
