Eddie Hearn welcomes UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall to Matchroom amid Dana White rivalry narrative

The combat sports world was buzzing after promoter Eddie Hearn posted a message welcoming UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall to the Matchroom Boxing team. The post showed Aspinall signing papers alongside Hearn, with the caption saying, “Welcome to the team UFC Heavyweight Champ @tomaspinallofficial – Time to get what’s yours.”

The move quickly sparked conversation across both boxing and MMA circles. While details of the partnership are still emerging, the announcement suggests that Aspinall could be exploring opportunities in boxing under the Matchroom banner while continuing his dominant run in the UFC heavyweight division.

Why the Tom Aspinall–Eddie Hearn partnership is raising eyebrows

Aspinall is currently one of the most dangerous heavyweights in MMA. The British star captured the interim UFC heavyweight title in 2023 and later solidified his position at the top of the division with dominant performances. Known for his speed, finishing ability, and well-rounded skill set, he has often spoken about his interest in boxing opportunities in the future.

Eddie Hearn bringing him under the Matchroom umbrella immediately caught attention because of the ongoing rivalry between Hearn and UFC president Dana White in the boxing space.

The timing is particularly interesting. Recently, Dana White made a major move by signing Conor Benn to his new boxing venture, Zuffa Boxing, effectively taking one of Hearn’s most notable fighters away from the Matchroom stable. Benn had long been promoted by Hearn and was one of the key names in the British boxing scene.

That signing was widely seen as a major power play by White as he attempts to establish Zuffa Boxing as a serious competitor in the sport. Now, Hearn’s association with Tom Aspinall is being viewed by some fans as a potential response.

While Aspinall remains under contract with the UFC as a champion, his relationship with Hearn means Dana White may now have to navigate a situation where one of his biggest stars is closely linked with one of boxing’s most powerful promoters.

If Aspinall ever decides to step into the boxing ring, Eddie Hearn would likely play a major role in making those fights happen.
