BJ Penn, a former UFC lightweight and welterweight titleholder, has been arrested twice in the span of three days in Hilo, Hawaii, on charges related to the abuse of a family or household member. The 46-year-old was initially taken into custody on Sunday and released after posting a $2,000 bail. He was arrested again on Monday, this time released after posting a $1,000 bail.
Penn posted a video of one of the arrests on Instagram, appearing disoriented and questioning why the police were detaining him. In addition to the arrests, Penn has made troubling claims online, alleging that his mother and brothers have been murdered and replaced with imposters trying to take over his inheritance.

His mother, Lorraine Shin, has responded by filing for a restraining order, citing disturbing and abusive behavior. She claims Penn is suffering from Capgras delusion, a psychiatric condition in which a person believes someone close to them has been replaced by an identical imposter.
This is not the first time Penn has faced legal trouble. In 2019, a judge granted his ex-girlfriend a restraining order following accusations of physical and sexual abuse over several years.
Penn, who retired from MMA in 2019, is expected to appear in court this week to address the recent charges.
