“Get That Win”- Alexander Volkanovski Eyes Ilia Topuria Rematch at Lightweight After Recent Title Defense

Last week in the main event of UFC 333, Alexander Volkanovski beat Movsar Evloev to defend his featherweight title. Volkanovski dominated from the start, kept the momentum going in the second round, and ultimately finished the fight.

The veteran landed a nasty combo and used ground-and-pound, forcing the referee to stop the bout. Following the win, the Aussie superstar has already talked about his next potential challenge against Ilia Topuria.

“If it was going to be for a lightweight title, that’d be great, because I get that win back as well. Gaethje took that zero, so I can’t say that I get the chance to take that zero from him. But to get that win back would be great,” said Alexander Volkanovski via Brendan Bradford.

Volkanovski fought Topuria in the main event of UFC 298 back in 2024 for the featherweight championship. Volkanovski lost the bout via a brutal knockout, which raised doubts about his future in the UFC.

However, despite all scepticism, the fighter has since made a comeback and is currently on a three-fight win streak. Before fighting Evloev, Volkanovski had beaten young contender Diego Lopes twice in a row.

UFC CEO Dana White credits Alexander Volkanovski’s credentials

Apart from challenging Ilia Topuria, Alexander Volkanovski had also called out the current lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. Volk has previously tried to get his hands on the lightweight title twice but lost to Islam Makhachev on both occasions.

At the age of 38, Volk is still giving top performances against young challengers, which has certainly increased his reputation as one of the greatest fighters. Following UFC 333, Dana White didn’t stop giving the fighter his credit.

“This guy’s fucking built different. Incredible. I mean, the guy’s an absolute stud. Um, you know, coming in and beating an undefeated younger guy… Volkanovski is incredible… He was the aggressive fighter. He was the one really going after him and trying to finish… this guy’s fucking built different,” said Dana White via UFC presser.

Volkanovski still hasn’t talked about his retirement and is eager for his next challenges. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see who he fights in his next Octagon outing.
