Ian Garry Questions Islam Makhachev’s Hand Injury, Accuses Champion of Ducking the Fight

Islam Makhachev

It’s been months since Islam Makhachev captured the UFC welterweight championship after defeating Jack Della Maddalena via unanimous decision. Since then, top contenders, including Ian Garry, have been calling him out for a potential title clash.

Recently, Islam Makhachev missed out on the opportunity to fight at the White House event due to his hand injury. According to the lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, the Dagestani faked it to run away from their fight.

Similarly, Ian Garry also believes that Makhachev has no injury and is making excuses in order to avoid him. The Irishman has been training his wrestling for weeks in order to sharpen his ground skills against Makhachev.

I heard that too, but I don’t believe it. I don’t know what to believe. I can’t imagine he hurt his hand in the last fight with Jack – maybe he did it while horse riding? I think it’s just excuses. Everything about him now tells me Islam doesn’t want to fight me. He’s doing the typical thing that all champions do when they get the belt,” said Ian Garry via Instagram.

Garry is currently on a two-fight win streak and defeated Belal Muhammad in his last UFC outing, and is hungry for more. The fighter also believes that his fight against Makhachev will revive the Dagestan vs. Ireland rivalry, which was sparked by Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov

For now, there is no confirmation about who’s next for Islam Makhachev, but several names are definitely being considered. It would be interesting to see whether Garry can find his way and finally get the title shot.

UFC veteran speaks about Islam Makhachev vs. Ilia Topuria dream match-up

Following the announcement of the UFC White House event, it has been confirmed that Ilia Topuria will fight Justin Gaethje in the main event. However, many fans have shown disappointment as they wanted to see the ‘El Matador’ fight the pound-for-pound king, Islam Makhachev

According to Makhachev, it was Topuria’s team who proposed more money, which resulted in UFC not making this fight. UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal recently talked about this superfight in detail and shared his honest opinion.

Whether it’s at the White House or a KFC parking lot, that’s the fight we want to see. I just want it to get done one way or another. This fight has to get done. That’ll be the biggest fight in a long, long time,” Jorge Masvidal via Deatherow.

Masvidal has also talked about the potential winner of this bout and has predicted that Topuria has the capacity to knock out Makhachev. However, on the ground, the Dagestani champion does have more chances.
