In a chilling incident that has shocked Spain’s combat sports community, well known kickboxing fighter Moisés Baute has been arrested after allegedly turning himself in following the discovery of a man’s body in the back seat of a car. The grim episode unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning outside one of the National Police stations in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
According to investigators, Baute and another suspect, Jonathan Martín, a nightclub bouncer, drove to the Tres de Mayo police station, parking outside with the deceased victim in their vehicle. Baute reportedly walked into the station and surrendered himself, confessing to involvement in the killing. Martín was also arrested on the spot. Officers observing signs of severe violence on the victim’s body immediately launched a homicide investigation.
The victim, locally known as “Albertito”, was a resident of the El Cardonal neighbourhood of La Laguna and is believed to have been acquainted with both suspects. His partner had reported him missing the previous afternoon after being unable to contact him. She informed police that he was supposed to meet Baute earlier that day. Investigators suspect this meeting may have led to a violent confrontation over drug related dealings, although alternative motives, including possible unlawful detention, gtorture, or intimidation, are still being explored. A third man, reportedly injured during the same incident, remains hospitalised with serious beating related injuries.

Police sources describe Baute, originally from the Añaza district, as known in underworld circles by the nickname “Moi El Orejas” meaning Moi the Ears. His alleged accomplice, Martín, is also from Añaza and known locally as “Johnny El Gordo” meaning Johnny the Fat One. It is believed both men decided to surrender after receiving legal advice, as an early confession can lead to reduced sentencing under Spanish law in homicide cases.
With the investigation ongoing and autopsy results pending, authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the killing, including whether it resulted from a fight, a targeted attack, or a plan that spiralled out of control.
