Magdalena Czaban Fights Free Of The Pressure That Usually Comes With A Perfect Record

Most undefeated fighters guard their zero like a treasure. Magdalena “The Powerpuff Girl” Czaban barely thinks about hers.

The 27-year-old from Krakow takes her 5-0 record into a women’s atomweight MMA bout with Brazil’s Victoria “Vick” Souza at ONE Fight Night 49: Gabriel vs. Magomedov on Prime Video on Friday, November 6. The card airs live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.

Czaban finished all four of her regional opponents after a decorated amateur career. Her ONE debut at ONE Fight Night 46 in August then threw her straight in with Natalie Salcedo, a 34-year-old American who blends Muay Thai pressure with sharp jiu-jitsu.

The Polish standout bloodied Salcedo’s nose early, switched to takedowns in round two, and sealed a unanimous decision with knees and ground-and-pound. More than the result, the night changed how she sees herself.

“My confidence rose a bit, because I saw that I’m better than I thought, you know? I saw that I can do it. Like I can fight with the best in the world,” Czaban said.

“I wasn’t even stressed. I was really excited about the fight. And I really enjoyed fighting in a ring. I think my head felt more calm in the ring.”

Souza will test that calm. The Brazilian owns four ONE wins, including a unanimous decision over former ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Title challenger Ayaka “Zombie” Miura in July and a 91-second guillotine of Itsuki “Android 18” Hirata at ONE 167.

Czaban can strike or grapple without missing a beat, and the CTRL Fight product has a US$50,000 performance bonus in her sights. Yet her biggest weapon may be her mindset.

Where an unblemished record often breeds caution, she competes with unusual freedom. Winning matters to her, but how she wins matters more.

“[Staying undefeated] is not really important for me. It will be nice to have a clear record, for sure, and I will try to do it. But if something will happen, like that’s life,” she said.

“The most important thing is to show good MMA for people and for the organization. That’s the main goal for me.”
