Magomed Magomedov Promises Two Weeks’ Notice Is Plenty To Stop Lucas Gabriel

Roughly two weeks ago, Magomed “Muhammad” Magomedov was preparing for a normal camp. Then Alibeg Rasulov got hurt, and the unbeaten Dagestani suddenly found himself headlining his promotional debut.

Magomedov meets Lucas Gabriel in the lightweight MMA main event of ONE Fight Night 49 on Prime Video on Friday, November 6, live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium. The 15-0 Master of Sport has stopped each of his last five opponents.

His new opponent is no gentle introduction. Gabriel is 5-0 in ONE, with a submission of Gadzhimurad “Tought” Amirzhanov and decision wins over Magomed Akaev and former ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion Ok Rae Yoon.

One more win could put the Brazilian in line for a World Title shot. Magomedov, by contrast, could leapfrog the queue entirely with a victory in his very first ONE appearance.

Based in Makhachkala, he has developed inside the KHK Dagestan camp that turned him from a raw prospect into an undefeated contender. On the biggest night of his career, he expects that same team to stand behind him.

“The final lineup of my corner team has not yet been decided. Most likely, representatives of my KHK Dagestan team will be with me,” Magomedov said.

The stakes ripple beyond the main event. Less than 24 hours before his walk, Christian “The Warrior” Lee defends his ONE Lightweight MMA World Title against Tye Ruotolo at The Inner Circle 37, and Lee’s most recent defense came against Rasulov.

For all the noise around a short-notice headliner, the newcomer insists his routine has not shifted at all. He has prepared for Gabriel with the same intensity he brought to every previous camp.

“I am preparing for this fight just as seriously as I have prepared for my previous fights. Every fight is important to me, so I always try to give my maximum effort and enter the [ring] in the best possible shape,” he said.

“I prepare for different scenarios and want to be ready for anything that might happen inside the [ring].”
