Marat Grigorian Finds Peace In Travel Ahead Of His ONE SAMURAI Featherweight Kickboxing Tournament Opener
For three-time Glory Kickboxing World Champion Marat Grigorian, an illustrious career has unlocked doors he never imagined. He treasures every one of them.
The 35-year-old Armenian returns to action against Russian standout Mamuka Usubyan in the first round of the eight-man ONE SAMURAI Featherweight Kickboxing Tournament at The Inner Circle 25 this Friday, August 7, in Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.
Between fight camps, Grigorian has carved out something just as meaningful: a genuine passion for exploring the world.
“Traveling is one of the best ways to grow in experience,” Grigorian said. “I’m blessed to be able to do that. But of course, I worked hard to be able to do this. My life wasn’t always nice and easy. I overcame struggles and many battles. So, making memories now is so important.”
His outlook is shaped by a strong Christian faith instilled since childhood.
“Above all, I’m a believer in God,” he said. “And I want to see what God has created for us. I want to be able to see it and experience it with my own eyes and touch. I see beauty in a lot of things, and I’m really thankful for the countless experiences.”
Travel also plays a practical role once fight week ends, forming a key part of how Grigorian resets between camps.
“After my fights, I take some time off just to focus on my life,” he said. “There’s no better way to just shut down everything and relax at a destination. This helps me grow mentally. It keeps my mind fresh before and after fights, restores my energy levels, and keeps me sharp before I continue fight camp or training.”
Japan and Thailand top his list, each holding a different pull.
“One of the most special places or countries I’ve been to is Japan,” he said. “You have to see it with your own eyes – the culture, the mentality, the mindset, the respect, and the cleanliness on the streets. The second place for me is Thailand. It’s also such a beautiful country with good food and good people.”
Above every place he has visited, one destination remains firmly at the top of his list.
“One of my dream destinations is to bring my parents to Jerusalem to visit where all the significant events in the Bible took place,” he said. “I want to familiarize myself with the places, and equip myself with more history about my religion.”
