Petninmungkorn And Pet Bring Two Different Stories Into One Life-Changing Night
A veteran rebuilding his life and a teenager still writing his first chapter collide in the ONE Friday Fights 165 main event, streaming live in Asia primetime from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium this Friday, August 7.
Petninmungkorn NamkangIceland has been flawless since his ONE Championship debut in May 2024, going six for six, most recently a third-round knockout of Toyota Eaglemuaythai this past January. He used the time since to heal a lingering hand injury, return home to Surin, and get married before rededicating himself to camp.
The 28-year-old has sharpened his kicks and knees specifically for this test, aware that his 19-year-old opponent, Pet Suanluangrodyok, brings genuine danger.
“His main strength is just sheer physical power, along with his leg kicks and punches. The most dangerous thing would probably be his kicks, based on his recent fights. It’s that head kick,” he said.
“As for weaknesses, I don’t think his chin or his body can take much damage.”
Rather than trade power for power, Petninmungkorn plans to draw Pet into mistakes before unloading.
“I’ll rely more on feints and setups, lulling him into a false sense of security before unleashing my strikes. I’m definitely going to be using my hands. I’m bringing everything,” he said.
Pet has walked his own path to this moment, closing out a difficult stretch with three straight wins that include a split-decision upset over Adam Sor Dechapan, younger brother of ONE Interim Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Aliff Sor Dechapan. That fight forced him to solve spinning backfists and flying knees unlike anything he had seen before.
“I learned a lot about technique and speed, plus dealing with strikes I’d never seen before, like spinning backfists and flying knees. I feel like I’m throwing a lot more strikes now, and my overall striking has gotten way cleaner,” he said.
The teenager respects what Petninmungkorn brings to the table but insists respect will not soften his approach on Friday.
“I’m aiming for a stoppage just like in my last fight. I’m bringing everything in my arsenal.”
