Sangarthit Comes Home To Muay Thai For The Inner Circle 30
For the first time in seven years, Sangarthit Looksaikongdin is returning to the sport that first shaped him.
The 22-year-old, the fourteenth of 16 children in a renowned fighting family, faces Logan “Dragon” Chan in a bantamweight Muay Thai clash at The Inner Circle 30 this Friday, September 11, streaming exclusively for members from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.
Sangarthit stepped away from Muay Thai as a teenager to pursue boxing, compiling a flawless 19-0 record that included the WBA Asia Super Lightweight World Title. Upon joining ONE Championship, he built a 3-1 record under kickboxing rules first, using those fights to rebuild his rhythm.
“Originally, I could have fought Muay Thai right from the start, but my dad — who is my main strategist — advised me to fight kickboxing first to adjust,” he said. “Kickboxing doesn’t have elbows, whereas Muay Thai is much more dangerous with punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. You have to train both attack and defense.”
That patience has left him confident his hand speed and combination volume will translate as a genuine weapon in Muay Thai’s smaller gloves.
“After four fights, I feel completely ready for Muay Thai now. I might have less experience throwing kicks, but pound-for-pound when it comes to punches, my hands are second to none,” he said. “Combining my boxing skill with the small gloves in Muay Thai gives me a great chance to win and chase that bonus.”
Chan brings a 3-1 ONE record with all three wins by knockout inside two rounds, and Sangarthit respects the threat even as he backs his own hands in a firefight.
“Logan is a very dangerous fighter. He’s strong, hungry, and has that relentless mindset typical of foreign fighters. Logan has the advantage in terms of Muay Thai activity over the last seven years, but if it comes down to trading punches, I believe I have the upper hand,” he said. “If I get an opening, I’m going for the knockout, and I’m sure he wants to knock me out too. To Logan: Bring your absolute best, and let’s test each other in the ring.”
