SENSHI Teases Revival of Andy Souwer and Albert Kraus
Kickboxing legends Andy Souwer and Albert Kraus share a rich history with one another. Over two decades since their last meeting, they’re going head-to-head once more at SENSHI 31: Gladiators, but not in the fashion you’d assume.
In a teaser video on their Instagram, the kickboxing promotion previewed Bulgarian stars and top lightweight contenders Dragomir Petrov and Atanas Bozhilov locking up in the middle of the ring on Saturday, 30th May, inside Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s Ancient Theatre.
Petrov made history as the first-ever SENSHI European -70kg Champion, while Bozhilov boasts the most wins in the promotion’s history with 11. But that’s where things get interesting.
The camera then cuts to a duo of hooded figures, who reveal themselves to be pure-striking pioneers Andy Souwer in Petrov’s corner, and Albert Kraus partnering with Bozhilov. It appears the pairing will reignite their feud at SENSHI 31, this time in the role of trainers.
Longtime kickboxing fans will know of their iconic rivalry, dating back to the early 2000s. Kraus was victorious in their initial meeting in 2003, where he scored a first-round TKO against his Dutch nemesis in that year’s K-1 World Max Tournament.
Souwer managed to even the score years later in the 2007 tournament, edging out a victory by split decision in the semi-finals. Due to the ferocity of their contests, the duo have forever been intertwined. Two decades on, it extends to Plovdiv, Bulgaria in what’s set to be an enthralling one-night lightweight Grand Prix on 30th May.
What’s more, the kickboxing legends have taken up roles as instructors throughout SENSHI Training Camps, teaching the next generation and promising prospects tricks of the trade as their rivalry continues to evolve.
“Andy Souwer is the greatest kickboxer in the whole world,” Kraus assessed. “But only after me!”
