Stephanie Han vs. Holly Holm

A much-anticipated boxing bout ended in controversy as Stephanie Han picked up a technical decision win over Holly Holm after an accidental headbutt forced the fight to be stopped in the seventh round.

Stephanie Han and Holly Holm were engaged in a competitive contest when a clash of heads opened a cut that left Holm unable to continue. Ringside doctors stepped in, and with the bout having passed the required number of rounds, officials went to the scorecards to render a technical decision.

Accidental clash cuts fight short

Han was ahead on the judges’ cards at the time of the stoppage, giving her the victory, though the ending left plenty of discussion among fans. The result was particularly frustrating given Holm’s history of pushing through adversity and turning fights late.

Beyond boxing, Holm’s legacy is already firmly cemented. A former UFC bantamweight champion, she is best remembered for her iconic knockout of Ronda Rousey in 2015, one of the most significant upsets in MMA history. That win, along with multiple title fights and her longevity at the top level, has secured her status as one of the most legendary female fighters in combat sports.

Han acknowledged the unfortunate nature of the finish but still took confidence from her performance before the stoppage. While the technical decision will stand on the record books, the way the fight ended leaves the door open for debate — and possibly a rematch — given Holm’s stature and the competitive nature of the bout up to that point.
