Tommy Robinson Faces Harassment Charges Shortly Before Prison Release

Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been formally charged with two counts of harassment intended to cause fear of violence. The charges relate to incidents involving two journalists and allegedly took place in early August 2024 during widespread public unrest in Southport, England. He is expected to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 5, 2025.

These new charges come just days after a judge approved Robinson’s early release from an 18-month sentence for contempt of court, which he received in October 2024. That case stemmed from Robinson breaching a court injunction by repeating false accusations against a Syrian refugee. Though his sentence was reduced on appeal, the court noted his limited remorse.

Robinson is also facing a separate legal matter in October 2025 for allegedly refusing to provide a PIN code to Kent Police when stopped last July.

A well-known figure in far-right circles and founder of the English Defence League, Robinson has frequently faced legal issues. While in prison, he claimed to have been placed in solitary confinement for his safety and described the experience as a form of psychological torment. He has received support from some public figures, including Elon Musk, who previously called for his release and criticized UK authorities.

With his next court appearance approaching, Robinson’s legal troubles continue to spark public debate around free speech, legal limits, and accountability.
