UFC Announces Historic White House Fight Card for Freedom 250

The UFC has officially announced one of the most unusual and historic events in combat sports history. The promotion will stage a fight card at the White House in Washington D.C., marking a first for both the UFC and professional sports in the United States.

UFC CEO Dana White revealed the lineup during a recent announcement, confirming that the event will take place as part of the celebrations surrounding the United States’ 250th anniversary of independence in 2026. The card, expected to take place on the South Lawn of the White House, will feature several of the promotion’s biggest stars.

The historic nature of the event has already generated significant buzz across the MMA community, with fans and fighters alike reacting to the idea of the Octagon being placed at one of the most iconic locations in American history.

Historic event set for White House

The event is expected to feature a stacked lineup headlined by a lightweight title unification bout between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje.

Topuria currently sits among the most dominant fighters in the sport. The undefeated star captured the lightweight championship after moving up from featherweight and quickly established himself as one of the UFC’s most dangerous knockout artists. Known for his power and precision boxing, Topuria has finished several elite opponents during his rapid rise.

Standing opposite him will be Gaethje, widely regarded as one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC. The former interim lightweight champion is known for his relentless pressure, devastating leg kicks and willingness to engage in wild exchanges. With both fighters possessing knockout power, the matchup is already being viewed as a potential fight-of-the-year contender.

The co-main event will see Alex Pereira move up to the heavyweight division to face Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title.

Pereira has already achieved remarkable success in the UFC, capturing championships at middleweight and light heavyweight. A win over Gane would make him the first fighter in promotion history to win titles in three different weight classes. However, Gane represents a significant challenge. The French heavyweight is known for his elite movement, kickboxing background and technical striking ability.

The interim title bout has been arranged while undisputed heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall continues recovering from injuries that have kept him sidelined.

Confirmed fights on the card

The UFC has opted for a compact but star-studded fight card featuring six bouts.

  • Ilia Topuria vs Justin Gaethje – Lightweight title unification
  • Alex Pereira vs Ciryl Gane – Interim heavyweight title
  • Sean O’Malley vs Aiemann Zahabi – Bantamweight bout
  • Michael Chandler vs Mauricio Ruffy – Lightweight bout
  • Bo Nickal vs Kyle Daukaus – Middleweight bout
  • Diego Lopes vs Steve Garcia – Featherweight bout

The lineup combines championship fights, established stars and rising prospects, ensuring the event maintains a high level of competition despite the limited number of fights.

Hosting a UFC event at the White House reflects how far mixed martial arts has come over the past two decades. Once banned in several states, the sport has evolved into a global entertainment powerhouse, with events held in stadiums and arenas across the world.

Now, with the Octagon set to appear at one of the most recognizable political landmarks in the world, the promotion will once again push the boundaries of where combat sports can take place.
