UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira Teases February Return To Australia

The UFC’s light heavyweight division has seen some incredible champions, but Alex Pereira stands out as a unique force. The Brazilian striker, known for his devastating knockouts, has quickly become one of MMA’s most feared competitors.

After defending his title three times in 2024 with spectacular finishes, including a highlight-reel knockout of Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307, Pereira took a well-deserved break. But it seems the champion’s rest might be coming to an end sooner than expected.

Alex Pereira recently got fight fans buzzing with a New Year’s message aimed at his Australian supporters. In a social media video, he is seen throwing his signature strikes on a heavy bag before delivering a message in Portuguese.

While this could mean he’s just planning to attend UFC 312 in Sydney, there’s more to the story. Whether Pereira shows up to fight or just scout at UFC 312, one thing’s certain – when he says “Chama,” the MMA world pays attention. Dricus Du Plessis And Alex Pereira Go Back And Forth

The back-and-forth between Alex Pereira and Dricus Du Plessis hits differently. ‘Poatan,’ a former kickboxing champion turned two-division UFC star, has built his reputation on turning lights out with surgical precision. Meanwhile, Du Plessis climbed to the top of the middleweight mountain by dethroning Sean Strickland, a feat that caught everyone’s attention, including Pereira’s.

The drama kicked up when Pereira called out du Plessis, suggesting he could drop back down to middleweight for a title shot. Through his translator, Pereira threw some spice into the mix,

“He never takes it seriously, so it shows that he’s scared, you know what I mean? Instead of him just saying, ‘Look, UFC. Let’s make me and Pereira fight.’ Clown,” said Pereira via Full Send MMA.

He even dropped the comparison that fighting du Plessis would be easier than facing Jon Jones. Du Plessis, never one to let a jab go unanswered, fired back on social media platform X with his own brand of sass.

A scared clown how dare you! Now, that’s taking it too far. I’ve already said I’m in to fight either you or @SStricklandMMA  what more do you want or should I tag your translator?”

Dricus Du Plessis pointed out he had already agreed to fight either Pereira or Sean Strickland, even taking a playful dig at Alex Pereira’s need for a translator. What makes this potential matchup even spicier is Pereira’s claim that making weight would be harder than the actual fight!

While both fighters seem to want this showdown, they’re playing a game of chicken about who’ll make the first serious move. The real question isn’t if they will fight, but in which weight class will this clash of titans finally goes down.

Jiri Prochazka Wants Another Shot Against Alex Pereira

The light heavyweight division hasn’t been quite the same since Jiri Prochazka lost his chance at the title to Alex Pereira in a stunning knockout at UFC 295. Before that fateful night, Prochazka had built a reputation as one of MMA’s most dynamic and unpredictable fighters.

The Czech warrior’s journey to the top was marked by highlight-reel finishes and a fighting style that looked more like a martial arts movie than a typical MMA bout. His brief reign as champion ended in injury, leading to a vacant title that Pereira would eventually claim in their explosive matchup.

Now Prochazka wants another crack at the crown, and honestly, who can blame him? The first fight ended fast, in the first round, with Alex Pereira’s notorious left hook finding its mark in the second round. Another loss came at UFC 303, once again in Round 2 with a head kick knockout.

Since these losses, Jiri Prochazka has been quietly rebuilding, training smarter, and adapting his wild style to counter Pereira’s precision striking. The matchup makes perfect sense. Prochazka’s samurai spirit against Pereira’s technical mastery, a clash of styles that could produce fireworks. This is what he said about the potential matchup.

“You know, maybe I’ll sound crazy or whatever, but believe me, I’m working on [once again becoming] the champion,” said Prochazka via MMA Fighting.

However, the landscape has changed, with other contenders like Magomed Ankalaev and Jamahal Hill also eyeing the throne and whispers of Pereira potentially moving divisions to chase more gold. If there is one thing fans have learned about Prochazka, though, it’s that he’s as persistent. He will keep pushing until he gets his shot at redemption, and given his track record of entertaining fights, the UFC might just give him what he wants.
