A viral online petition demanding Jon Jones be stripped of his UFC heavyweight championship has gained massive attention, reflecting the growing impatience among fans and prompting playful jabs from fellow fighters.

Mounting Fan Discontent

Since Jon Jones claimed the heavyweight title in March 2023, he’s only defended it once. His anticipated bout with Stipe Miocic was delayed due to a torn pectoral tendon, sidelining him for around eight months. In the meantime, interim champ Tom Aspinall has been left waiting for a unification fight. This has led to a Change.org petition, which now boasts over 100,000 signatures, urging the UFC to strip Jones of his title.

Fighters Join in With Humor

Several MMA personalities have responded with humor. Derek Brunson, former UFC middleweight now competing in the PFL, shared a comedic skit in which he defends Jones but slyly signs the petition behind his friend’s back, only to be caught and scolded.

Tom Aspinall also poked fun at the situation. In a spoof video, he mocked Dana White’s unwavering support for Jones, pretending to search high and low for the elusive champion while joking that Jones is deliberately avoiding a fight against him.

Jon Jones Breaks Silence

Jon Jones responded to the petition with sarcasm on social media. He wrote, “I’ve faced the absolute toughest competition this world had to offer for 15 years now… Now I have newcomers requesting I get my championship stripped.” He added a cheeky nod to past controversies, saying, “The equivalent to picograms 😂”.
