What Is A Combat Sports Interclub?

To many people, the thought of starting a combat sport like kickboxing and Muay Thai can be daunting, especially when it comes to getting punched and kicked.

However, for most clubs, there is nothing to worry about. In fact, both the owners and members are very welcoming. They understand that they, too, were once in your position and make the training syllabus to start you off learning the basics.

As you progress, they would then start incorporate sparring in to your training, which you would need to buy kickboxing sparring equipment.

Sparring, as much as it is very challenging and physically demanding, is very fun. However, there is a huge gap between sparring in the gym to fighting on a fight night in your local town. This is why many clubs offer an Interclub competition.

What is an Interclub kickboxing competition?

An Interclub competition is a fight show which is held at the local gym or club. The organiser of the Interclub will invite members from other gyms, and spectators are usually welcome.

It is designed for a fighters development to both skill, confidence and experience of being in the ring with people watching.

Interclub fights should be very controlled and the contact should also be kept light. They are not about knocking your opponent out. The referee will state this before the bout starts.

The next level of competition is light continuous events. Light continuous is very similar to Interclubs as the level of contact is controlled with shorter or fewer rounds. However, the event is sanctioned by an official body.

Can you get knocked out at an Interclub?

As previously mentioned, Interclub events should be controlled and fighters shouldn’t be looking to knock their opponent out. However, accidents do happen, and being a combat sport it still is possible on rare occasions for a knockout to happen.

Conclusion

With that said about the Interclub, it is safe to say that it is crucial for a fighter’s development. It provides a solid platform for fighters to grow and move up through the ranks before they eventually transition into professionals.
