The trend of retired UFC fighters entering the boxing world continues to grow, showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. One of the biggest names to recently make this transition is Nate Diaz, who has already competed in two high-profile bouts. Now, Diaz finds himself called out by an old rival, former UFC lightweight title contender Dustin Poirier.
A few weeks ago, UFC CEO Dana White inaugurated TKO Boxing under the Zuffa banner, collaborating with Saudi financial backers. The historic debut event was headlined by boxing superstars Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, selling over 70,000 seats. It achieved approximately 41 million global streams and was #1 on Netflix in 30 countries, demonstrating remarkable worldwide interest.
Following the spectacular success, White remains extremely confident about expanding deeper into boxing, envisioning long-term dominance in the sport. Following that, Dustin Poirier recently suggested that a blockbuster fight against Nate Diaz could generate immense profits. “Zuffa Boxing 12rnds me and Nathaniel I’d do it. Only 1 more fight I’d take,” wrote Dustin Poirier via X.

The long-standing rivalry between Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz
Dustin Poirier announced his retirement from professional fighting earlier this year, following a devastating loss against Max Holloway at UFC 317. Before that, Poirier had lost his third title opportunity, suffering a tough submission defeat to former pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev. Despite these consecutive setbacks, the resilient ‘Diamond’ appears unbothered by recent form and looks eager for another return to action.
Nate Diaz, on the other hand, has already shared the boxing ring against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal. Diaz lost his fight against Paul but managed to beat the ‘Gamebred’ while avenging his previous loss at UFC 244. The Stockton native is desperate to get inside the ring and has already called out big names such as Conor McGregor and Terence Crawford.
Nevertheless, the rivalry between Diaz and Poirier has deep roots, with both fighters consistently exchanging fiery words and public callouts. A scheduled bout at UFC 230 was officially announced but later cancelled due to injury issues, leaving fans disappointed. Despite the setback, Diaz and Poirier have continued teasing the matchup, keeping alive speculation about a future clash. It will be interesting to see whether Dana White sees this as a lucrative fight to make.
