Mike Tyson Admits He “Would’ve Been a Criminal” If Boxing Didn’t Save His Life

Mike Tyson returns to boxing

Mike Tyson is one of the most popular and influential boxers in the entire history of the sport. The fighter is famously known as the youngest ever heavyweight champion in history, achieving that milestone at just twenty years old. In his prime fighting years, Tyson was feared worldwide for his unmatched viciousness, brutal aggression, and terrifying knockout power.

Mike Tyson had a long and controversial boxing career where he participated in several of the sport’s biggest pay-per-view events. Throughout his successful run, the legendary fighter earned millions of dollars from boxing and became a global superstar.  Now at the age of 60, the veteran icon has surprisingly made a remarkable comeback to professional boxing, stunning the entire combat community.

During a recent interview, Tyson was asked about his life’s alternative path if boxing had not worked out successfully. While responding to the interviewer’s question, Tyson delivered a brutally honest answer that immediately left everyone completely speechless. “If I wasn’t a boxer, I would have been a criminal. I don’t like any other sports but fighting. That’s what I was going until I got discovered in a Juvenile detention center and somebody taught me how to box,” said Mike Tyson via It is What It Is.

Mike Tyson was discovered by legendary boxing trainer Cus D’Amato, who immediately recognized the young fighter’s unmatched potential and aggression. D’Amato became a father figure, helping Tyson channel his uncontrollable anger and aggression into disciplined training. Tyson has often thanked D’Amato for saving his life, crediting him for shaping his mindset and guiding his greatness.

Mike Tyson’s next boxing bout

Last year, Mike Tyson made headlines by stepping back into the boxing ring for a high-profile bout against Jake Paul. Many fans and experts questioned the fight’s legitimacy, considering Tyson’s age and Paul’s controversial rise in the boxing world. Despite showing flashes of his old power, Tyson ultimately lost the fight via unanimous decision after eight competitive rounds.

However, the boxing legend earned an estimated $20 million from the event, proving his unmatched star power and commercial appeal. Currently, Tyson is being linked to a potential blockbuster fight against undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, scheduled for next year. The veteran has also talked about potentially fighting Paul in a rematch after fishing his buses with Mayweather.
