Godofredo Pepey, a renowned Brazilian mixed martial artist and former UFC fighter, was tragically found dead inside a Florida prison. Authorities confirmed the incident occurred on November 9, 2025, marking the untimely passing of the 38-year-old veteran fighter who once thrilled global MMA audiences. The official reports from investigators described the death as an apparent suicide, with no immediate signs or indications of external foul play.

Godofredo Pepey’s death occurred while he was in custody, facing serious domestic violence and kidnapping charges involving his wife. The Brazilian fighter had entered a plea of not guilty to all accusations and was awaiting further court proceedings regarding the alleged incident. Pepey was also being held under an immigration detainer, with his bail officially set at a steep $120,000.

Authorities discovered Godofredo Pepey unresponsive during a standard routine check inside Broward County’s main jail facility earlier that morning. According to official reports, the Brazilian fighter was found with a sheet tied around his neck inside his jail cell. Despite immediate efforts by jail staff and emergency responders, Pepey was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a nearby medical center.

Godofredo Pepey’s professional career as an MMA fighter 

Born in Fortaleza, Brazil, Godofredo Pepey began his martial arts journey at a young age, inspired by his brother’s black belt expertise. He made his professional MMA debut at just fifteen years old, securing victory through a skillful armbar submission. Over his career, Pepey built an impressive record of 14 wins and 7 losses, competing across major global and regional events.

As the featherweight runner-up in The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil Season 1, Pepey earned recognition for his creativity and fearless fighting style. During his UFC tenure, he fought eleven times, holding a 5–6 record and winning three “Performance of the Night” bonuses. Fans remember his electrifying flying knee knockout against Noad Lahat and slick submission victories over Dashon Johnson and Andre Fili. After leaving the UFC, Pepey competed in Brave CF and later challenged for the Ares FC welterweight title in 2022. Nevertheless, several fans and experts have shared their respect following the death of the fighters.
