Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov Rekindle Their Feud After Explosive Twitter Exchange

The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov has never truly cooled, but the past few days have shown that even seven years after their infamous UFC 229 clash, the tension can still erupt instantly. Their latest clash happened not in the cage, but on social media, after McGregor reacted sharply to Khabib’s new digital papakha NFT project.

Khabib recently launched a collection of digital papakhas, inspired by the traditional Dagestani sheepskin hat he made iconic during his UFC walkouts. The collection reportedly sold tens of thousands of units within hours, generating millions. But shortly after, many promotional posts tied to the project disappeared from his accounts, sparking conversation about whether the launch had been handled transparently.

That’s when McGregor jumped in, accusing Khabib of using his father’s name and Dagestani culture to “scam fans.” He referred to the NFT project as a “father’s scam,” dialling up the personal tone instantly. The comments were later deleted, but the storm they created stayed alive across Twitter.

What Triggered Khabib’s Response?

Khabib fired back just as hard, calling McGregor a liar and defending the project as a cultural tribute rather than a money-grab. He pointed out that the NFTs were intended as digital gifts for fans, dismissing McGregor’s claims as hypocritical.

This is because McGregor himself had previously launched a crypto project that fell apart and refunded supporters, a detail many fans quickly resurfaced when the Irishman criticised Khabib’s venture. The back-and-forth also led to fans reigniting old debates about legacy, professionalism and which fighter still commands the narrative seven years after their bout.

The exchange highlighted how their rivalry has evolved. Khabib is long retired and focused on business and coaching, while McGregor moves between fight talk, comebacks and new ventures. But despite these different paths, one tweet is enough to relight one of the most intense rivalries the sport has ever seen.

Their UFC 229 fight in 2018 remains the biggest moment of their feud. Khabib choked McGregor out before a post-fight brawl cemented their animosity as one of the sport’s defining storylines. Since then, both men have taken shots at each other periodically, but this is the most heated exchange in recent memory.

The latest episode shows that their conflict no longer needs a fight camp or face-off to explode. It has moved into new territory where business ventures, cultural pride and reputation become the battleground. And as long as both men remain global figures, fans can expect this rivalry to flare up again and again.
