The future of Jon Jones in the Ultimate Fighting Championship has become uncertain after the former two-division champion publicly asked to be released from his contract. The situation reportedly began after a disagreement between Jones and UFC CEO Dana White regarding a potential appearance on a major upcoming UFC event.
Jones had been linked to the historic UFC Freedom 250 event, which is expected to take place at the White House on June 14, 2026. The card generated massive attention due to its unique location and significance. However, when the lineup was announced, Jones was not included on the card.
Hey everyone, I wanted to address Dana White’s comments from this past weekend, because the truth matters to me and the fans.

Dana, you were heated about why I’m not on the White House card, but let’s clear something up. My team and I were actually negotiating with the UFC for…
White later stated that Jones was never seriously considered for the event. According to White, concerns about Jones’ health and activity played a role in that decision. The UFC boss mentioned that Jones has dealt with hip arthritis and had previously hinted at retirement, which made the promotion uncertain about building a major event around him.
Jones responded quickly to those comments on social media. The former heavyweight champion claimed that discussions with the UFC about fighting on the White House card had actually taken place. He also suggested that he had already lowered his financial demands during negotiations but felt that the offer he eventually received from the promotion was far below what he expected.
Jones publicly requests UFC release
Frustrated by how the situation unfolded, Jones publicly asked the UFC to release him from his contract. He stated that if the promotion truly believes his fighting career is finished, then they should allow him to leave and explore other opportunities.

Jones also addressed the health concerns mentioned by White. He acknowledged that he has hip arthritis but said he recently underwent stem cell treatment and was preparing to begin a training camp in anticipation of a possible fight.
The 38-year-old last competed in November 2024 when he successfully defended his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic. After that victory, Jones briefly announced his retirement before later expressing interest in returning for a major event.
As of now, the UFC has not confirmed whether it will grant Jones’ request. The situation has created major discussion within the MMA world, with fans closely watching to see whether Jones will remain with the UFC or potentially become a free agent.
