Ronda Rousey rolled back the years in spectacular fashion, submitting Gina Carano in just 17 seconds during the main event of MVP MMA’s debut card on Netflix. The long awaited clash between two of women’s MMA’s biggest pioneers ended almost as quickly as it began, with Rousey once again showcasing the armbar that made her a global superstar.
The fight marked Rousey’s first MMA appearance in nearly a decade, while Carano stepped back into the cage for the first time in 17 years. Despite the massive anticipation surrounding the matchup, Rousey wasted no time taking control the moment the fight started.
As soon as the opening bell rang, Rousey charged forward, secured an immediate takedown, transitioned into full mount, and locked in her trademark armbar before Carano could recover. The former Strikeforce star was forced to tap out only 17 seconds into the first round.

Rousey’s Signature Armbar Ends the Fight Instantly
The finish instantly reminded fans of prime Rousey during her dominant UFC run, where she became famous for ending fights within seconds using the same submission. Even though Carano knew exactly what was coming, there was little she could do to stop the Olympic bronze medalist once the fight hit the ground.
After the fight, emotions were high inside the arena. Rousey praised Carano and revealed how important she was to her own journey into MMA.
“Gina is the person who brought me into MMA,” Rousey said after the victory. “She’s the only person who could have brought me back.”
The event itself was a huge night for MVP MMA and Netflix, with several major names competing on the card including Francis Ngannou, who also scored a brutal first round knockout win over Philipe Lins earlier in the evening.
Although many fans hoped for a longer battle between two legends of the sport, Rousey’s dominant finish proved she still possesses the elite grappling instincts that once made her one of the most feared fighters in MMA history. The 17-second victory also became one of the fastest finishes of her professional career.
