Xavier Gonzalez Promises Exza A War At The Inner Circle 36

Xavier Gonzalez allowed himself one or two days to sulk. After that, the split decision that ended his momentum simply became fuel.

The 25-year-old Spaniard makes his 15th ONE Championship appearance against debutant Exza Wankhongohm in flyweight Muay Thai at The Inner Circle 36 on Friday, October 30. The event streams live in Asia primetime from Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium for members at live.onefc.com.

Gonzalez was red-hot in June, knocking out Payaksurin JP Power in round one at The Inner Circle 17 and flattening Chatanan Apichat Muaythai in the second frame at The Inner Circle 19 two weeks later. In September, Thway Lin Htet edged him by split decision at The Inner Circle 30.

The Tor Sangtiennoi representative still believes he did enough to win.

“I was pretty confident I won because he just ran. I got tired from chasing him, but I saw that my strikes landed cleaner and made him flinch. He did land some kicks on me, but they didn’t faze me at all. No reaction,” Gonzalez said.

“I was really heartbroken at the time, but whatever the judges decide is out of my hands. So I was upset for a day or two, and then that was it. Life moves on.”

Looking back, he believes caution cost him that night. Wary of Thway Lin Htet’s counters, he held back from committing to his combinations, and he has vowed not to repeat that mistake.

Exza may be making his ONE debut, but Gonzalez is not treating him lightly. The Thai brings a 60-15 record and far more ring miles than the Spaniard, along with dangerous leg kicks.

Four of Gonzalez’s seven ONE wins have come by knockout, and he has never been stopped in 14 promotional bouts.

“I come to fight, I make it exciting, and I always press forward no matter what. Win or lose, I give it my absolute all and try to make every fight a war. But sometimes it doesn’t depend on just me. It depends on the opponent, too,” he said.

“Exza, let’s leave it all in the ring. It’s going to be an explosive, bloody war. I’m fully ready for a brawl, so you better come prepared. Let’s go out there and throw down with everything we’ve got!”
