Allycia Hellen Rodrigues to defend ONE Atomweight Women’s Muay Thai World Title versus Johanna Persson in ONE Fight Night 33 headliner

Reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion Allycia Hellen Rodrigues will defend her crown against decorated Swedish striker Johanna Persson in the main event of ONE Fight Night 33

The World Title clash takes place on Saturday, 12th July, inside Bangkok, Thailand’s historic Lumpinee Stadium. The championship encounter pits one of Muay Thai’s most dominant titleholders against a woman widely recognised as Europe’s premier current striker.

Rodrigues burst onto the global stage in August 2020 when she stunned Thai megastar Stamp Fairtex to capture the atomweight Muay Thai crown at ONE: A NEW BREED. That sterling performance turned her into an overnight sensation and established her place at the pinnacle of the sport.

Following a break to enter motherhood, the Brazilian’s return has been nothing short of unstoppable. Her elite fight IQ, thunderous kicks, and vicious clinch game have allowed the slugger to successfully defend her belt three times.

In her most recent outing, Rodrigues turned in perhaps the most impressive showing of her 41-fight career, stopping respected veteran Marie McManamon in the fourth round at ONE Fight Night 29 on just one week’s notice.

However, Persson could be the woman to end Rodrigues’ reign of terror. The 30-year-old Swede boasts a jam-packed trophy case that includes WBC and ISKA World Titles, as well as numerous European, Nordic, and Swedish Championships.

That dominance on the European circuit earned Persson this call-up to ONE Championship – and showed that she’s a serious threat to take Rodrigues’ gold.

Persson’s forward-marching aggression, clean combination striking, and gritty clinch attack could give the titleholder plenty of problems at ONE Fight Night 33, but she will need to overcome a woman who has sat atop the throne for years.

The headline announcement follows a previously announced featherweight Muay Thai co-main event where #3-ranked contender Shadow Singha Mawynn puts his divisional position on the line against surging star Mohamed Younes Rabah.

Fans can watch all the action live at 2am live on Sky Sports.
