Chris Eubank Sr vs Nigel Benn: Will They Settle Their Feud Once and for All?

Few rivalries in British boxing history carry the intensity, drama, and legacy of Chris Eubank Sr versus Nigel Benn. Their story began in the early 1990s, fuelled by contrasting personalities, elite talent, and a deep personal dislike that made their encounters unforgettable. Decades later, the question remains: can this feud ever be fully settled?

Their first meeting took place in November 1990 for the WBO middleweight title. It was a ferocious fight, filled with tension from start to finish, and Eubank Sr secured victory with a ninth-round stoppage. Three years later, in 1993, they met again at Old Trafford in a massive world title unification. This time the fight went the distance and ended in a split draw, leaving fans without a definitive conclusion. With no trilogy ever materialising, debate over who truly had the edge lingered for decades.

The sons continue the rivalry

Their rivalry gained a fresh chapter through their sons, Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn. After years of public build-up, postponements, and controversy, the pair finally fought in April 2025, where Eubank Jr won by unanimous decision.

The rematch was set for 15 November, bringing renewed anticipation and enormous pressure as both men carried not only their own ambitions but the weight of a 30-year family feud. On the night, Conor Benn delivered a career-best performance, outboxing Eubank Jr convincingly and scoring two knockdowns in the final round. He won by unanimous decision, making the series 1-1 between them.

With their sons now tied after two fights, the family rivalry has found a strange sense of symmetry. One win each for the fathers, one win each for the sons. Yet even with the score levelled, the question of closure remains complicated.

For some fans, Conor Benn’s victory and the emotional intensity of the rematch felt like a symbolic ending. For others, the rivalry has always felt unfinished ever since Eubank Sr and Benn never completed their own trilogy. Boxing history shows that when the demand is high and the story is rich, rivalries rarely stay closed for long.

As it stands, both generations have left their mark. Whether the feud is finally laid to rest or whether another chapter awaits, the Eubank–Benn saga remains one of the most captivating in British boxing lore.
