George Jarvis backing Jonathan Haggerty to defeat Rodtang in rumoured trilogy bout

British Muay Thai star George Jarvis believes ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan Haggerty holds all the cards should he face old rival Rodtang Jitmuangnon in a potential trilogy clash.

Jarvis himself challenges two-sport ONE World Champion Regian Eersel at ONE Fight Night 34 in the main event for the latter’s ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Title on Saturday, 2nd August, inside Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium.

The English fighter has been vocal in his support for his compatriot ahead of the much-speculated third meeting between the pair, with many fans clamouring to see the bout materialise following their epic encounters at flyweight.

Haggerty fought Rodtang in 2019 and 2020, losing his flyweight gold in the first clash before suffering a third-round stoppage in the sequel.

But with all that time passed and talks of a trilogy fight potentially taking place at bantamweight – Haggerty’s current home – Jarvis believes the weight advantage will prove decisive for the reigning kickboxing king.

“Haggerty’s already been down to flyweight. He’s already done the business there. He has to stay at bantamweight,” Jarvis said.

“I think if Rodtang comes up to bantamweight, it’s going to be, you know, it’s going to be tough, a tough night’s work [for him].”

Beyond the potential trilogy bout, Jarvis also weighed in on another mouth-watering matchup that has captured the imagination of Muay Thai fans, pitting Haggerty together with ONE Interim Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nabil Anane.

The Algerian-Thai star has looked virtually unstoppable since capturing the title in January versus Nico Carrillo at ONE 170, but Jarvis believes his countryman possesses the unique skill set required to dethrone the seemingly invincible striker.

Jarvis pointed to Haggerty’s track record of pulling off stunning upsets as evidence that the Englishman shouldn’t be written off against any opponent, regardless of their fearsome reputation.

“Nabil is an animal, even for his age. A lot of people put it down to his size, but his skill set, strength, and the striking power that’s come through recently has been unbelievable,” Jarvis said.

“But, if anyone is going to beat Nabil, it’s Jonathan Haggerty. I can’t see anyone beating him right now, but it’s Haggerty who’ll do it. He’s got the aggression, the skill set, and a great team behind him.

“He’s done it before. He’s beat Nong-O, he’s shocked the world before, so who says he can’t do it again?”
