Jake Paul recently dropped a bit of a bombshell during an interview—he was close to locking in a fight with Gervonta “Tank” Davis. According to Paul, the matchup was just about ready to go before it was scrapped at the last minute.
The fight would’ve seen Paul, a YouTuber-turned-boxer who typically fights around 195–200 pounds, go up against one of boxing’s most feared lightweights. Davis, who usually competes at 135 pounds, ended up having to focus on a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. after their first bout ended in a draw. That rematch is now set for August 16.
Still, Paul isn’t counting the idea out. He said he’s open to revisiting the fight later this year—possibly November—if Davis handles business with Roach. It would be one of the most talked-about crossover bouts yet, bringing together two of boxing’s most polarizing figures.

Speaking about potentially making the fight happen, Jake Paul had this to say:
“I mean that was on the 1 yard line as well, but he has to rematch Lamont Roach. He wants to get that back and then we’ll be back in discussions with Mr. Gervonta.”

Furthermore, Jake Paul also listed the rules that the fight would take place under. Take a look at the rules mentioned below:
- Exhibition
- No restrictions
- 195 pounds
- 10 x 3 min rounds
Not everyone is thrilled about the idea, though. WBC champ Shakur Stevenson has criticized the matchup, saying Davis should be chasing title unifications, not celebrity fights.
Whether you love Jake Paul or love to hate him, one thing’s clear: he’s not afraid to call out big names—and Gervonta Davis might be next on his list.
