Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson: Is It fixed? Reality Behind The Netflix Fight

Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson is a contest that has divided opinion not only in boxing circles but also in the public forum. Tyson, once known as the “baddest man in boxing,” is now 58, while Paul, the world-famous YouTuber and latter-day boxer, is 27.

The two superstars in their own rights are set to clash at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on November 15th. However, it is worth noting that the fight’s original date of July 20 was called off when Tyson suffered a health scare and needed medical attention on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.

As the highly anticipated matchup approaches, there seem to be a lot of questions still left unanswered. That said, we will take a look at each one of them in this piece.

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s professional boxing records

Jake Paul is considerably new to the sport of boxing. However, that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t made quite a name for himself. Having chosen a rather interesting route in his career so far, he is one of the most popular names in the sport.

As far as his boxing record goes, he is currently 10-1 in his pro-boxing career. He started his professional career with a fight against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib and won the fight via a first round knockout.

In his second fight, Paul went up against NBA star, Nate Robinson and finished him in the second round. After this, Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley x2, Anderson Silva, Tommy Fury, Nate Diaz, Andre August, Ryan Bourland and Mike Perry were to follow.

As far as Mike Tyson goes, there isn’t a lot that needs to be said about him. The youngest heavyweight champion in the history of the sport is widely considered to be one of the best boxers to have ever entered the squared circle.

Boasting a professional record of 50-6-2, he was once the most feared man on the planet. Tyson won 44 out of the 50 fights via knockout. While Paul vs Tyson is sanctioned to be a pro fight, it would be Tyson’s first pro fight since 2005. He was last seen inside the squared circle against Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match.

Is Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fixed?

As soon as the bout between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson was announced people started to speculate if it would be fixed. Considering the fact that Tyson is 58 years old, many people believe that there is no way that he would agree for a pro fight and it would most likely be fixed.

However, both Paul and Tyson, along with the organizers of the event could land in jail if the fight were to be fixed. Fixing a professional fight is a punishable offense and with so much money on the line for everyone involved, the fight cannot be fixed.

Earlier this year, when the fight between Paul and Tyson was announced. A lot of people started to speculate about the fight being fixed and in response to those claims, Paul issued a statement and said:

“A lot of people are saying if Jake wins then the fight is rigged because of how great he looks. Age is just a number, he’s a killer and he’s a warrior. He’s been doing this his whole entire life so it’s second nature to him. I’ve been doing it for four years and I’ve been doing it at a super-high level but I’m going to prove I can out-box Mike Tyson. I’ll be the one doing the killing”.

Concerns regarding Mike Tyson’s health

It is Mike Tyson’s age and health that is the fight’s principal point of concern. Professional boxers generally finish their careers in their late thirties, and even an aberration like George Foreman, who captured a heavyweight world title in 1994 at age 45, was done just three years later.

While the Rocky-style footage of Tyson bashing padded-up coaches and heavy bags, looking fit and fabulous seems intriguing. It is worth noting that these are against a static opponent that doesn’t hit back.

Supporters of the fight point to Mike Tyson’s exhibition bout four years ago with Roy Jones Jr, when the two legends tip-toed through 10 rounds of insipid action, as proof that Iron Mike is up to the Paul bout. They are ignoring, of course, the sciatica that saw the boxing legend wheelchair-bound after the Miami episode, which he admits flares up from time to time.

Moreover, he suffers from ulcers, or the general physical dissipation that accompanies mid/old age. The Paul-Tyson fight is not an exhibition, and real punches will be thrown which could severely impact Tyson.

Is a fight against Mike Tyson worth it for Jake Paul?

The simple answer to that question is yes. The fight against Mike Tyson is certainly more beneficial for Jake Paul than it is for Tyson. While Tyson has his physical well-being and health on the line, that is certainly not the case with Paul.

If Paul wins the bout, he can forever claim to be the one who beat Tyson. If he loses, he lost to the great Iron Mike so it’s not that big of a deal. However, it would certainly be a bit embarrassing for Tyson to have a loss against Paul in his legendary career.

Conclusion

Despite the bout being heavily criticized, there is a lot of hype surrounding the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight. Going into the fight, Tyson has emerged as a massive underdog and not a lot is expected from him.

However, it is boxing and one should not forget that even one punch at the right spot can knock anyone out, more so if it comes from someone like Tyson. If Paul secures a victory over Tyson, it would certainly be a hard pill to swallow for his fans. However, that is the most likely outcome.

As far as the fight goes, it would be broadcast live on Netflix. This would be the first event of its nature to be live-streamed on Netflix. With that said about the fight, it remains to be seen how the fight will play out on November 15.
