Nico Carrillo’s Return To Featherweight Meets Shadow’s Unstoppable Momentum In ONE Interim Title Clash At ONE Fight Night 40

The weight class decision proved correct. Nico Carrillo moved back up to featherweight Muay Thai after his January 2025 loss to 6-foot-4 Thai-Algerian skyscraper Nabil Anane at ONE 170, reassessing where he felt healthiest and strongest following the bantamweight title chase that came up short.

The 27-year-old Glasgow native has been unstoppable ever since, knocking out seven-time Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong in April 2025 before stopping American standout Luke Lessei seven months later.

On February 13 at ONE Fight Night 40 inside Bangkok’s historic Lumpinee Stadium, broadcasting live on Prime Video, the man known as “King of the North” gets his chance to finally claim the world title gold that’s eluded him throughout his career when he faces Thai knockout artist Shadow Singha Mawynn for the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship.

Carrillo’s promotional journey began near-flawlessly in April 2023, decimating Furkan Karabag via third-round TKO in his featherweight debut before moving down to bantamweight where he finished the beloved Muangthai PK Saenchai via second-round TKO to earn a six-figure contract.

He then knocked out former longtime ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Hama and former world title challenger Saemapetch Fairtex to position himself for an interim title shot. The Anane loss forced the weight class recalibration, but the Scottish slugger’s undefeated featherweight campaign now stands at three knockout victories with championship gold finally within reach.

Standing across from him is another revered knockout artist who seems to get more dangerous with every appearance. Shadow entered ONE Championship as a Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion but fell in his promotional debut in February 2024.

The 25-year-old Bangkok resident then went on a spectacular five-fight run, defeating former world title challenger Jimmy Vienot, recent contract winner Mohammad Siasarani, and even Sitthichai himself. After knocking out Hassan Vahdanirad at ONE Friday Fights 100 in March 2025, Shadow earned his own six-figure contract and global roster spot.

Though his first U.S. primetime showing against Mohamed Younes Rabah ended prematurely in a no contest due to an accidental eye poke in July 2025, the Thai roared back by finishing WBC Muay Thai World Champion Bampara Kouyate with a spinning backfist two months later.

Both Carrillo and Shadow represent the finest contenders in the featherweight division, with whoever emerges victorious earning the chance to unify the gold against injured champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai at some point in the future.
