“They wanna be famous and rich” – Canelo Alvarez Highlights the Biggest Flaw in Today’s Young Boxers

Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez talks about the problem with the new generation of boxers.

Canelo Alvarez is one of the most popular and decorated boxers in recent times, widely respected for achievements and longevity. The Mexican superstar has been in the sport for a long time and has taken part in some of boxing’s biggest fights.

In his last outing, Alvarez fought Terence Crawford and came up short against the American, who remained undefeated. Despite the defeat, Alvarez earned more than $100 million from the fight, underscoring his massive global drawing power.

Now preparing to bounce back, Alvarez recently spoke about the new generation of boxers and their overall mindset. “They wanna be famous and rich. Dressing like they’re rich already, posting pictures on social media like they’re famous. Everybody pretends to be rich when they’re not,” said Alvarez via Ring Magazine.

Early in his career, Canelo Alvarez was undefeated, building momentum through constant activity against tough opponents. At just 23, he challenged Floyd Mayweather, suffered his first loss, and learned elite-level discipline under pressure that reshaped everything.

Instead of stopping, Alvarez used defeat as fuel, bouncing back stronger and eventually becoming a champion across multiple divisions worldwide. He believes young fighters should chase glory first, not money or social media trash talk, before proving themselves inside rings.

Canelo Alvarez remembers what went wrong against Terence Crawford

Canelo Alvarez versus Terence Crawford was one of boxing’s biggest modern spectacles, capturing global attention and unprecedented anticipation worldwide. It marked the inaugural event of Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, instantly amplified by crossover intrigue, promotional power, and mainstream hype.

Alvarez entered as the clear fan favourite, while Crawford accepted a daring weight disadvantage that few believed he could overcome successfully. Inside the ring, Crawford delivered a technical masterclass, controlling tempo, distance, and exchanges en route to a unanimous decision victory.

In a recent interview, the veteran revealed subtle adjustments, mental discipline, and strategic patience that defined his performance that night. “I wanted to move faster. I didn’t recuperate my weight like I needed. So, I felt a little bit tired, and my legs felt a little bit tired, too. I did well, even if my body didn’t really feel like I wanted. I tried, but my body didn’t respond,” Canelo Alvarez continued.

Alvarez also talked about a potential rematch with Crawford and has promised to get his revenge. However, ‘Bud’ has revealed that he has retired and won’t be coming back, irrespective of the money involved. Fans are excited about whether these two fighters will get the opportunity to fight each other once again.
